Turn it off

Like a light switch

It's a cool little Vampire* trick

We do it all the time

When you're feeling certain feelings that just don't seem right

Treat those pesky feelings like a reading light

And turn 'em off

There's always a lot put at stake (literally and figuartively) when a vampire shuts off their humanity switch on THE VAMPIRE DIARIES. But what some would call a downward spiral into villain territory, I call a darn good time. Vampires deciding to take the road less felt on TVD has always showcased some of the best hours for the show and it sure didn't stop with Caroline on this week's Ian Somerhalder directed episode, entitled THE BOOK OF MORMON "The Downward Spiral."

No humanity Caroline was getting wasted at the only bar at Hogwarts Whitmore when Elena's ex-flame Liam wondered up, looking for a good time. Unfortunately for him, his idea of a good time and Caroline's didn't match up as her definition included eating Liam.

Elena and Stefan were investigating Caroline's whereabouts when Bonnie offered her help, reuniting with Elena. Over at the cemetery, Kai was lamenting about his feelings some more and Damon was grave robbing his mothers coffin to find out if her body was actually inhabiting it, even though he already knew the answer.

Enzo was still on his Sarah Salvatore mission, showing her his vampire side once again and flirting his way to her heart with tea. At the dorms, Caroline had arrived, back from a long day of no humanity shopping. She nonchalantly confessed that she ate Liam, but didn't kill him, as it would have been way too inconvenient for her. She told Elena and Bonnie she needed a year to act out and live without emotions and if anyone got in her way then they would have a big problem.

Enzo finally confessed that he was a vampire to Sarah and she acted like it was no big deal, which threw him for a curveball. Caroline confronted Enzo for not attending Liz's funeral, but didn't care, as she was more concerned with inviting him to party with her.

In order to find Caroline, the gang decided to attend the campus rave. Caroline didn't really need saving as her life without emotions proved to be more responsible than most of the characters with emotions. Bonnie's efforts were deterred by a guy who deemed her "hot" and she responded by burning his hand with her returned witchcraft. 1994 prison world had left the resident witch with an edge.

Elena finally came to her senses and decided that Caroline wasn't doing such a bad job of turning off her humanity, but Stefan wasn't convinced and wasn't about to watch Caroline have to relive all her grief after a year with no feelings. He thought confessing his own feelings to Caroline would spark something inside her, but she was adamant on keeping her switch off and scoffed at Stefan.

Damon put a call into Bonnie and she refused to see Kai or believe that the merge had changed him. Kai had looked into the Gemini archives and discovered Lily's reason for being in the 1903 prison, citing she had been on her way to Damon when she was captured. He refused to divulge any more information until Damon convinced Bonnie to come around.

Enzo finally arrived and Caroline filled him in on the fact that Stefan probably compelled Sarah not to care about vampires in order to keep her safe and out of their world. She also tried to flirt with him, but he refuted her advances.

Damon showed up to the rave with Kai, who tried to apologize to Bonnie, but all she could remember were the several times Kai had tried to kill her and leave her in 1994 prison. She stormed off and Damon followed, but Bonnie had had enough. She forced Damon to feel the pain Kai had caused her.

Stefan had pushed Caroline to the edge with his admittance of affection. She stole Enzo's phone, inviting Sarah to the bar with the intention of killing her. Caroline compelled Liam to perform surgery on Sarah over at the hospital and laughed in Elena's face when Elena tried to make the situation about herself. Caroline decided that she wouldn't go through with killing Sarah if Stefan agreed to switch his humanity off and join her for margaritas. Stefan refused and the two tussled once Caroline tried to get Liam to take Sarah's heart out.

Damon was hoping Kai would still help get Lily out of her prison world, but Kai decided to let Damon in on the rest of the truth: there were only two prison worlds, Kai's and Lily's, and Lily had been put into hers because of her likeness to her youngest son. Lily had turned into a vampire and shortly after became a ripper, killing thousands of people before being sent to solitary confinement.

Elena hadn't found Liam and Sarah in time and in order to get Caroline to stop, Stefan agreed to switch off his humanity, asking Elena to bring him back. As Elena was finally able to track down and save Liam and Sarah, she quickly called Stefan, hoping he hadn't taken the plunge yet. But it was too late; no humanity Stefan and no humanity Caroline were ready to party.

Things we need to discuss:

- Will ripper Stefan and ripper Lily be reunited to go on a mommy and son binge? I sure hope so!

- Who else is hoping Klaus pops up for the sole purpose of saying "rippah!"

- No humanity Stefan was my favorite aspect of Season Three and I cannot wait to watch him unleash his sass all over again.

Who do you want to see switch off their humanity next? Did the rave scene also give you horrible flashbacks to college? How awesome is badass Bonnie? Comment below or tweet me @enr702 or find me live-tweeting @erinrlivetweets.
