Adele Among Big Winners at 2012 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS

THE 2012 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS show aired live on Sunday, May 20 (8:00–11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. The awards show took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas in partnership with Chevrolet and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA). This was the second year that ABC broadcast the event.

Adele dominated this year's Billboard Music Awards, taking home an incredible 12 awards in the following categories: Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Digital Songs Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top Digital Media Artist, Top Pop Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album, Top Pop Album, Top Streaming Song (Audio) and Top Alternative Song. Winning a total of 6 awards, LMFAO was named Top Duo/Group, with "Party Rock Anthem" earning them Top Hot 100 Song, Top Digital Song, Top Pop Song, Top Rap Song and Top Dance Song. GoonRock and Lauren Bennett, who are both featured on "Party Rock Anthem," each took home 5 awards each.

Lil Wayne and Coldplay each earned 4 Billboard Music Awards, while Casting Crowns, Jason Aldean and Lady Gaga each received 2 awards. Lady Antebellum, Romeo Santos, Shakira, Don Omar, Lucenzo, Wiz Khalifa, Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Chris Brown, Afrojack, Nayer, Ne-Yo, Pitbull, Foster The People, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, U2 and Laura Story each won one Billboard Music Award.

The show also featured three special awards: Stevie Wonder was honored with the Icon Award and Whitney Houston was posthumously honored with the Millennium Award, each for their career achievements, while Taylor Swift made history as the youngest to receive the coveted Woman of the Year Award, acknowledging her achievements as a trailblazing female artist over the past 12 months.

In addition to the winners of the Billboard Music Awards, other finalists for awards included 50 Cent, AWOLNATION, Bad Meets Evil, Big Sean, Blake Shelton, Bon Jovi, Britney Spears, Bruno Mars, Calvin Harris, Camila, Cee Lo Green, Chris Tomlin, Christina Aguilera, Cristian Castro, David Guetta, Dev, Drake, Eli Young Band, Eminem, Flo Rida, Foo Fighters, Jamie Grace, Jay-Z, Jennifer Hudson, Jeremih, Kanye West, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, Mana, Mandisa, Maroon 5, Mary J. Blige, Matthew West, MercyMe, Michael Buble, Miguel, Mumford & Sons, Nickelback, Prince Royce, Roger Waters, Scotty McCreery, Skillet, Skrillex, Take That, Taylor Swift, The Band Perry, The Black Eyed Peas, The Black Keys, TobyMac, Usher and the Zac Brown Band.

The Billboard Music Awards take a holistic look at artist performance based on key fan interactions with music-finalists and winners were determined by chart performance and social and streaming activity as chronicled in Billboard magazine and on Billboard.com during the eligibility period of March 1, 2011 through February 29, 2012. The 46 award categories were based on measures provided by our data partners including sales data shared by Nielsen SoundScan, radio airplay monitored by Nielsen BDS, streaming data measured by Tubemogul and Nielsen BDS, social media consumption gauged by Next Big Sound and tour grosses tracked by Billboard Boxscore.

"The 2012 Billboard Music Awards" was co-executed produced by Richard Beckman, CEO of Prometheus Global Media, which owns Billboard, and Don Mischer of Don Mischer Productions.
