Expedia.com announced today that it has again partnered with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for the annual St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign, an unprecedented union of celebrities, media, retail and corporate brands, that asks consumers to donate while they shop during the holiday season and join St. Jude in finding cures and saving children. This is the fourth year that Expedia has participated in the campaign.
St. Jude is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other deadly diseases. Created by Marlo, Terre and Tony Thomas children of St. Jude founder Danny Thomas the St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign began as a holiday-focused fundraising effort and has grown into an annual tradition that has raised more than $387 million for research and treatment in the ongoing battle to end childhood cancer. Kicking off Thanksgiving week and running through the end of December, this year marks its 10 th anniversary of asking the public to "Give thanks for the healthy kids in your life, and give to those who are not."
"The incredible support we receive from Expedia and their loyal customers during the St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign is critical in our fight to end childhood cancer," said Marlo Thomas, national outreach director for St. Jude. "St. Jude is where doctors send some of their toughest cases because we have the world's best survival rates and Expedia's commitment helps us continue that lifesaving work while staying true to my father's founding promise that families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food because all a family should have to worry about is helping their child live."
Beginning November 18, 2013 through December 31, 2013, Expedia.com will make a $5 donation to St. Jude each time a new customer signs up for the Groupon Getaways with Expedia program or each time a customer purchases a Groupon Getaways voucher through Expedia.
Additionally Expedia.com will donate $5 to St. Jude for every Facebook share of the "Find Your Strength" campaign. Expedia.com created a "Find your Strength" video as part of its Find Yours campaign, featuring St. Jude patient Maggie who survived pediatric cancer: http://www.expedia.com/p/info-other/findyours.htm. Earlier this year, Expedia gave away 150 trips in support of St. Jude and, throughout the year, members of the Expedia Rewards travel loyalty program can donate their points to help the kids of St. Jude.
"St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is a miracle a thriving, successful organization that provides pioneering research and treatment at no cost to patients. We're proud to help channel the collective energy of millions of travelers to support it," said Dara Khosrowshahi, chief executive officer, Expedia, Inc. "We already know that travelers are passionate people who know how to make every moment count. So please, join in. And thank you."
