Every great film needs great music. The Whistler Film Festival (WFF), in association with Music BC, has issued the call for artists for the fourth consecutive WFF Music Showcase which will run during the 2017 festival taking place November 29 to December 3.
The WFF Music Showcase includes evening showcases as well as pre-scheduled meetings with the music supervisors and possible additional performances during the festival. Up to ten export-ready, British Columbia songwriters and artists from across the musical spectrum will be selected to each play a live 30-minute set, and meet with key international music and film executives and delegates attending the festival. The program offers a unique opportunity for musical artists to perform for music supervisors of all filmed media looking for their next discovery, professionals from the film, TV, documentary industry, and music industries looking to put tracks on their next project, as well as film fans who love music. Launched in 2014, over 24 artists have participated in the program to date including JPNSGRLS, //AMISTAD//, Little India, Morning Show, Wooden Horsemen, Wil, Humans and more. "WFF provides an intimate stage for some of British Columbia's most promising musical artists to focus on song placements in feature films, TV shows, documentaries, and any filmed media. This opportunity allows musicians to connect with filmmakers and music supervisors at the fest who can open those types of doors," said Angie Nolan, WFF's Director of Industry Programming. "We have had some great traction to date for the artists and are looking forward to even greater success for this year's edition."The Whistler Film Festival is funded by the Government of Canada through Telefilm Canada and Western Economic Diversification, and by the Province of British Columbia and the Resort Municipality of Whistler, is supported by the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation and the American Friends of Whistler, and is sponsored by Variety, Creative BC, The Harold Greenberg Fund, the Canadian Media Producers Association, Cineplex, Whistler Blackcomb, Tourism Whistler and the Westin Resort & Spa Whistler.
