The Fixx and Wang Chung Play the Mayo Center Tonight

Go back to the future with 1980s British new wave favorites Wang Chung ("Everybody Have Fun Tonight," "Dance Hall Days," and "Let's Go") and The Fixx ("One Thing Leads to Another," "Saved by Zero") tonight, July 24 at 8 pm at the Mayo Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $29-59.

The Fixx are an English New Wave band formed in London in 1979. Their biggest hits include "One Thing Leads to Another," "Saved by Zero," and "Deeper and Deeper," which was featured on the soundtrack of Streets of Fire. The Fixx's first album, Shuttered Room, in 1982, featured the band's initial hits, "Stand or Fall" and "Red Skies," both of which charted in the US and the UK. Their next album, Reach the Beach became (and remains) the group's most commercially successful album. The album's first two singles "Saved by Zero" and "One Thing Leads to Another," cracked the US top 40, and "One Thing Leads To Another" became the band's biggest-ever hit (No. 4 US). The 1984 album Phantoms contained the hits "Are We Ourselves" and "Sunshine in the Shade." Another song from the period, "Deeper And Deeper," was released as the B-side of "Are We Ourselves" (and also appeared in an edited version on the soundtrack for the film Streets of Fire). In 1985 The Fixx recorded the song "A Letter to Both Sides" for the soundtrack of the film Fletch. The next year they released their fourth album Walkabout, containing "Secret Separation" (No. 1 on Billboard Magazine's "Album Rock" chart) and "Built for the Future."

Wang Chung came out of the post-punk New Wave scene in the UK to achieve global status selling millions of records. Throughout their 30 year career, they have released 5 albums and two greatest hits compilations. They have had six U.S. top 40 hits including a number one. In the process of all of this, Wang Chung became part of the contemporary culture in North America. Their smash "Everybody Have Fun Tonight," with its now famous line "Everybody Wang Chung Tonight" saw the invention of a new U.S. verb - "to Wang Chung." Icons such as Homer Simpson and Frasier Crane name-checked the band on TV and Wang Chung even achieved punch-line status in The Spy Who Shagged Me.

Mayo Performing Arts Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, presents a wide range of programs that entertain, enrich, and educate the diverse population of the region and enhance the economic vitality of Northern New Jersey.
