MUTEK Announces Complete Lineup for San Fransisco Festival This May

Today, MUTEK announces the complete lineup for the festival's first foray into the United States, taking place in San Francisco this May, providing a full picture of how the festival will unfold. Beyond the 33 artists announced in March, MUTEK.SF is thrilled to present the North American solo live premiere of seminal techno innovator Moritz Von Oswald, known for his pioneering work (in collaboration with Mark Ernestus) as Basic Channel, Maurizio, Rhythm & Sound, and more. Live sets from Detroit techno-electro innovators Aux 88 and playful Chilean techno artist Matias Aguayo have also been announced. Building even further upon an already impressive local slate, Bay Area artists 8ULENTINA, Christopher Willits, DIBIA$E, Foozool, King Most, and Only Now have also been added to the festival lineup. The festival will also present a variety of audiovisual and experiential artworks: iAltar from Brian Reinbolt; The Chamber of Cerebral Geometry from Craig Dorety; Immersive Constructions from Last Faith Studio and Subpac; Strobe Piece from Greg Zifcak; Lux Aeterna from Joey Verbeke & Ya_mur Uyan?k; Teratogenesis from Jonathan Beilin and Magnus Pind; and Binary Garden 2 and Aquarium from Marpi. These experiences reflect the spirit of exploration and technological innovation that San Francisco embodies.

Performances are organized into four distinct series: Digi Lab, which presents panel discussions and technical education; A/Visions, which presents large-scale audiovisual works in a variety of venues; Nocturne, which presents forward-thinking live electronic music in a club context; and Experience, which features mixed indoor-outdoor programming in a day-into-night setting.

These performances will chart a course throughout San Francisco, taking place at 9 different venues both old and new. Thursday night's Digi Lab and A/Visions programming begin at the California Academy of Sciences, then moves to the storied North Beach venue Bimbo's 365 Club for Nocturne. Friday's A/Visions programming takes place at Herbst Theatre, an historic Beaux-Arts style theatre that serves as the primary venue for the Bay Area's premier cultural and performing arts organizations; Nocturne moves to Mezzanine, a San Francisco venue with a superlative soundsystem and a raw, stripped-down warehouse aesthetic. On Saturday, Digi Lab and A/Visions land at Gray Area Grand Theater, an art deco theater recently revitalized and restored to new splendor by local digital arts nonprofit Gray Area. Nocturne climaxes with simultaneous dual-venue programming, returning to Mezzanine while also taking over the old San Francisco Mint, just a block away, where the basement will be transformed by live techno while art installations feature in the vaults beside. On Sunday, the festival closes with Experience, a twelve-hour day-into-night program taking place at The Midway, a creative complex in San Francisco's Dogpatch neighborhood, featuring music and mixed media programming both outdoors and indoors, art installations, and special performances inside Envelop, an immersive spatial listening space within The Midway. Last but not least, festival passholders will pick up materials, learn more information, and experience art installations at Heron Arts, an independent arts organization in downtown San Francisco serving as MUTEK.SF's headquarters.

Additional information about MUTEK.SF's culinary arts programming is forthcoming.
