Kate Waters Releases Sophomore Album SOME COMFORT
The eleven-track follow-up to her debut NEAR draws praise from The Bluegrass Situation and Americana UK.
Kate Waters' sophomore album 'SOME COMFORT' is out today. Self-produced and recorded at Red Tree Recording Studio in Magnolia, Texas, the album is described as an artful offering of emotional vulnerability, emboldened with sturdy Americana spirit and spun with lively, memorable melodies.
Since its announcement, 'Some Comfort' gathered enthusiasm from tastemakers at The Bluegrass Situation, DittyTV, Americana Highways, Houston Press, and Americana UK among others, with singles landing in the Top 5 Most Added on the folk charts.
Waters wrote her first album 'NEAR' in response to her mother's death. Released in 2024, it's as much a loving daughter's ode as it is a practice in processing grief, a touching display of Waters' bold willingness to be vulnerable. Whereas 'NEAR' dealt with the agony of endings, Waters' follow-up and first studio release 'SOME COMFORT' celebrates the inspiration they can provide.
'Just before my mother died, she published her very first book of poetry,' Waters says. 'Seeing it in her hands, the culmination of her life's dream, propelled me to finally pursue my own.'
Hope—specifically the kind that's hard fought-for—is the undercurrent of 'Some Comfort.' Waters finds light in every hardship, and never spares us the dirty, difficult work of searching for it. That honesty to the process lends even her most anthemic offerings a human authenticity, the feeling that we've stood by her side in every battle, and she, ours.
