GIRAFFE to Release Debut Album THE TOWERING INFERNO WITH BONGO DRUMS
The album was recorded in a single day, growing out of an impromptu performance at Gold-Diggers in Los Angeles.
Giraffe, the new quartet featuring Dave Harrington (Darkside), Robert Walter (The Greyboy Allstars), Spencer Zahn and Kosta Galanopoulos (Rio Kosta), has released its debut album, THE TOWERING INFERNO WITH BONGO DRUMS, available now via ORG Music and Aquarium Drunkard.
Recorded in a single day, the 12-track album captures four accomplished musicians listening, reacting and creating together in real time. Giraffe moves fluidly between cosmic psychedelia, groove-driven improvisation, ambient textures and jazz-informed interplay, allowing ideas to emerge naturally while maintaining an uncommon sense of cohesion.
Among the album's highlights is 'Room of Forgotten Names,' a cinematic and immersive track that drifts through shimmering textures, patient improvisation and deep-pocket grooves. It follows the group's debut single, 'Catastrophe Music,' which first introduced Giraffe's hypnotic rhythmic interplay and instinctive musical chemistry.
The group's origins trace back to an improvised performance at Gold-Diggers in Los Angeles. With no established material or predetermined direction, the four musicians followed a shared appetite for exploration. A second performance confirmed that the chemistry was undeniable, leading the quartet into 64 Sound to record THE TOWERING INFERNO WITH BONGO DRUMS.
Rather than constructing songs piece by piece, Giraffe embraces spontaneity and the thrill of collective discovery. Across the album, Harrington's guitar, 12-string guitar, electric sitar, sampler and electronics intertwine with Walter's electric piano, organ, Clavinet and synthesizers. Zahn's fretless bass and Galanopoulos' dynamic drumming and percussion provide an elastic rhythmic foundation that continually shifts between meditative atmospheres and propulsive grooves.
Produced, mixed and mastered by Harrington and engineered by Tyler Karmen at 64 Sound, THE TOWERING INFERNO WITH BONGO DRUMS documents the earliest creative spark of a band that never intended to become one. What began as an experiment among friends has developed into a fully realized artistic statement celebrating curiosity, deep listening and the unpredictable magic that occurs when musicians surrender to the moment.
THE TOWERING INFERNO WITH BONGO DRUMS is available now on vinyl, CD, cassette and digital formats via ORG Music and Aquarium Drunkard.
