Bogus Pomp Orchestra to Perform the Music of Frank Zappa at the Palladium, 9/20

On Saturday, September 20, 2014 the Bogus Pomp Orchestra will be performing the music of Frank Zappa at The Palladium Theater in downtown St. Petersburg. Bogus Pomp has been the preeminent local band doing Zappa's music for twenty years. In 1999 and 2000 Bogus Pomp played joint concerts with The Florida Orchestra for two sold out performances at Mahaffey Theater and also played in NY with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2003 and 2004 Bogus Pomp adopted a chamber orchestra format which featured the ten players in Bogus Pomp along with fifteen members of The Florida Orchestra. It is this format that will be featured on September 20.

Bogus Pomp is led by guitarist Jerry Outlaw and the entire orchestra will be conducted by Dr. William Wiedrich. The arrangements were specially written for the Bogus Pomp Orchestra by Tom Trapp and will feature some of Zappa's most interesting compositions as well as very beautiful medleys. The Bogus Pomp Orchestra won "Best Music Event" award of the year by Creative Loafing in both 2003 and 2004. While some rock bands around the world pay tribute to Zappa, it is even more rare for an orchestral event of Zappa's music such as this to happen anywhere.

In the last two decades, Bogus Pomp truly has become an institution of musical excellence and artistic daring," states Jerry Outlaw.
