Blue Note Hawaii's 2nd Anniversary Continues With Chris Botti

Blue Note Hawaii is continuing its second anniversary celebration with the week-long residency of jazz trumpeter Chris Botti. The Hawaii News Now Jazz Legends series kicks off with musical icon Chick Corea. Other international and national recording artists include Filipino super star Martin Nievera in a Valentine's Day series, followed by 80s pop star Rick Springfield. Returning to the Blue Note Hawaii stage by popular demand is guitar legend Lee Ritenour. The local artists this month include Honolulu-based jazz and hip hop drummer Dae Han, the incomparable Willie K and beautiful songstress Raiatea Helm. There are also powerful tributes to Whitney Houston featuring Ginai, Quincy Jones and John Coltrane with Mike Lewis & Friends. There's reggae on tap with a celebration of Bob Marley's birthday in what promises to be an amazing evening of music. Josh Kaye & Friends will pay homage to Nina Simone featuring vocalist Sherry Graham.
A 15% kama'aina discount is available to residents for most shows. This is available online with code MAHALO15, as well as in person at the box office. Parking is validated at the OHANA East Hotel for $6 for four hours, and at the Outrigger Waikiki for $15 for four hours valet.

Pulling influence from the likes of Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder and J Dilla, the Dae Han Ensemble remembers the sounds from the past to blend with the present. The Ensemble will be dedicating this performance to the memory of the late great J Dilla, a pioneer in revolutionizing the art of beat making who has a cemented legacy in the DNA of modern-day hip-hop.

International icon Robert Nesta Marley was born on February 6, 1945. Chick Corea has attained iconic status, reaching the rank of the fourth-most nominated artist in GRAMMY Awards history with 63 nods - and 22 wins. The keyboardist, composer and bandleader has touched an astonishing number of musical bases in his career since playing with the genre-shattering bands of Miles Davis in the late '60s and early '70s.

Beginning his career as a sideman for Miles Davis and various other jazz bands throughout the jazz boom of the '50s, saxophonist John Coltrane started his solo career in 1960. John would pass away in 1967, but has left a prolific recording legacy as well as a legacy of superstardom in the jazz community with such a short time in the spotlight.
