Year-end praise for Sparrow:
American Songwriter, Top 10 Songs of 2018 "Wild Love"
Esquire, Best Country Songs of 2018 "Hands On You"
"This is A-grade, irresistible songwriting."
"Monroe's voice is as boldly expressive as ever on the LP, which merges songs about lustful sensuality ("Hands on You"), dog motherhood ("She Wakes Me Up") and familial trauma ("Orphan") into a tightly-woven portrait of clear-headed reckoning and newfound thirty-something maturity."
"With a blend of traditional country and singer-songwriter appeal, Sparrow was one of 2018's most treasured releases."
"Few country artists can turn pain into beauty as well as Ashley Monroe can."
"Country music's melancholy queen turned in the year's sneakiest set of addictive love and life songs."
"No matter the topic, Monroe brings a timeless country poetics to songs both difficult and fine, proving that even if she doesn't get her due now, her songs will live on for centuries after this."
