The record-breaking Kickstarter campaign which was established to bring the cult TV drama VERONICA MARS to the big screen has officially closed. According to TVGuide.com, the project has raised $5,702,153.

With an initial goal set at $2 million, the kickstarter run broke records with the highest number of donors at 91,585. It is also the third highest-grossing project in the history of the fundraising web site.

Among the potential perks donors will receive will are a sheet of Veronica Mars stickers designed exclusively for the campaign, a T-shirt and a possible speaking role in the film.

In a recent message to contributors, series creator Rob Thomas shared that he has now completed a first script of the film, which will feature Kristen Bell reprising her role of Veronica. "There's a lot of work left to do, but it's a movie I can't wait to make," Thomas said. "I think it's also the movie you've been waiting to see."
