- October 23, 2012 Most residents probably don't know it, but New Jersey has been a breeding ground for new choral music for nearly two decades. And Schola Cantorum on Hudson (SCH) is a big reason why. Founded in the mid-1990s by choral, vocal performer and educator Deborah Simpkin King, PhD, the independent non-profit's 35-member choral ensemble not only has a rich performance schedule, but it supports educational programs that train emerging music professionals, while taking a leadership role in the premiere of new choral works.

- October 23, 2012 Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) presents Emmy®-nominated guest conductor Benjamin Wallfisch, considered "one of UK's most exciting young composers" (BBC Music Magazine), who makes his LACO debut conducting the world premiere of his own Violin Concerto on Saturday, November 10, 8 pm, at the Alex Theatre and Sunday, November 11, 7 pm, at UCLA's Royce Hall. LACO commissioned the work for LACO's Assistant Concertmaster/soloist Tereza Stanislav, acclaimed for her "sure technique and musical intelligence" (Calgary Herald), on the occasion of her 10th anniversary with the Orchestra. Also featured on the program are Beethoven's Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 36, noted for its humor, depth, power and vitality, and Elgar's virtuosic Introduction and Allegro for Strings, Op. 47.

- October 21, 2012 The Music Institute of Chicago presents the Barkada Quartet, winner of the coveted 2012 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition Grand Prize and the Senior Wind Division Gold Medal. Only the fourth non-string ensemble to take top honors at Fischoff, the Barkada Quartet performs today, October 21 at 3 p.m. at Nichols Concert Hall, 1490 Chicago Avenue, Evanston. Handel and Haydn Highlight Boston Baroque's 2012-2013 Season, Opening 10/19 by BWW News Desk
- October 19, 2012 Boston Baroque, America's first period-instrument orchestra, has announced its 2012-2013 concert season, running from tonight, October 19, 2012 to April 20, 2013. Music Director Martin Pearlman will conduct five programs of two performances each, taking place at New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall in Boston or at Sanders Theatre at Harvard University in Cambridge. Highlights of the season will include a rarely-performed Handel comic opera, Partenope; Haydn's "Lord Nelson" Mass, which is slated to be recorded for later release on CD; Handel's Messiah at the holidays; and concerts that feature members of the orchestra and chorus in small ensemble and solo roles.

Cleveland Orchestra Performs Russian Concerts, Now thru 10/20 by BWW News Desk
- October 18, 2012 Pinchas Steinberg conducts The Cleveland Orchestra in Severance Hall concerts featuring music by three Russian masters. The main work on the program is Sergei Prokofiev's symphonic cantata drawn from his score for the 1938 film Alexander Nevsky. Mezzo-sopranoSasha Cooke makes her Cleveland Orchestra debut as soloist in the cantata. Also performing with the Orchestra in Alexander Nevsky is the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, prepared by Cleveland Orchestra Director of Choruses Robert Porco and Assistant Director of ChorusesLisa Wong. The concerts open with Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Suite from Le Coq d'or ("The Golden Cockerel"), followed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Francesca da Rimini.
