After 12 years, Mercury Baroque drops the “Baroque”, starting fresh as Mercury – The Orchestra Redefined. Following a creative rebranding last season, Mercury now performs a repertoire extending beyond Baroque, reflecting the orchestra’s natural growth and evolution. Mercury stands apart from other orchestras in its consistent use of period instruments, creating a unique and organic sound. In addition to its flagship subscription series at the Wortham Center, Mercury is proud to perform for the first time in four new neighborhoods in 2012-2013, reaching and engaging an even larger audience in Houston.

Mercury begins its Neighborhood Series with "Selections from L'Estro Armonica - Vivaldi’s Harmonic Inspirations" featuring concertos for one, two and four violins from Op. 3 to be announced at the concert from the stage. The performances feature Concertmaster and violinist Jonathan Godfrey.

The debut of this beautiful series of concertos truly put Vivaldi on the map, and solidified his reputation as “The Red Priest” - referring to his fiery crop of red hair. This is a powerful piece that inspires both passion, and spiritual transcendence - join Mercury as you are, for a casual and inviting neighborhood concert! This is a friendly, inexpensive, hour long performance with a spoken presentation from stage, in an accessible and intimate venue.

Sunday, October 14, 2:00pm The Woodlands, John Cooper School
Thursday, October 18, 8:00pm The Heights, Gallery M Squared
