The Air Force Strings to Offer Free Concert at Hartt School Community Division, 8/4 by BWW News Desk
- July 15, 2015 The Air Force Strings will present a concert of String Orchestra music at the University of Hartford's Hartt School Community Division on August 4, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. at Millard Auditorium on the University Campus, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, Hartford. The program will include works by Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Bartok, and Foote. Master Sgt. Mark Dorosheff will be featured as violin soloist in Mozart's Rondo in C major for Violin and Orchestra, K. 373. This performance is free and open to the public but tickets must be reserved. Call the University Box Office at 860.768.4228 or visit hartford.edu/tickets to reserve tickets. Free parking is available in parking lot D, across from the auditorium.

- July 10, 2015 The Bishop's Bluecoat Anglican High School Handbell Choir from Chester (UK) will present a free impromptu concert at St. Bartholomew's Church on Wednesday, July 29, at 12:30 pm. The choir includes 12 gifted handbell ringers, who are students at the Bishop's Bluecoat Anglican High School. The team rings in the traditional English 'off -table' style using a 4-octave set of American Malmark bells. As members of the Handbell Ringers of Great Britain, they have performed at every NW Region Rally since their formation and twice at National Rallies. The team rang in Lorrach, Chester's twin town in Germany on the occasion of the inauguration of 'Chesterplatz' a city centre square named to commemorate the twinning of the two cities - and returned to Lorrach in June 2012. The ringers appeared on national television on the Jonathan Ross show - as a 'backing group' for the Icelandic singer Bjork. In March 2013 Bishops' Handbell Ringers were invited to represent the N.W. of England in the national Rally Concert in Glasgow. They were one of 7 teams in the UK afforded this prestigious invitation.
Carnegie Hall Expands National Youth Orchestra of the USA by BWW News Desk
- July 10, 2015 In summer 2016, Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute will launch NYO2, a two-week, intensive summer program for outstanding young American instrumentalists, ages 14-17. As with the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA) created by Carnegie Hall in 2013, NYO2 will be free to all participants. NYO2 will support greater diversity within the classical orchestral field with a particular focus on attracting talented students who have been traditionally underserved by local music programs, offering an opportunity for participants to play alongside exceptionally talented peers and learn from a world-class faculty. Running in conjunction with NYO-USA's annual summer residency at Purchase College, State University of New York (SUNY), NYO2 aims to provide the finest musical training for younger students, expanding the pool of young musicians across the country equipped with the tools to succeed at the highest level.
