SWC & SMC Set Dennis Coleman's Farewell Season

HOUSTON (July 21, 2015) – Award-winning violinist Hilary Hahn, originally scheduled to perform with the Houston Symphony in Fall 2015, has notified the Houston Symphony of her plans to take a short leave to care for her newborn baby due this summer, a decision that would force her to withdraw from her performances at Jones Hall on September 25-27, 2015.
The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra to Welcome Violinist Karen Gomyo, 10/2-3

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra announces an artist update to its performances on Friday and Saturday, October 2-3 (8 p.m.) at Music Hall. Hailed by the Chicago Tribune as, “A first-rate artist of real musical command, vitality, brilliance and intensity,” violinist Karen Gomyo will perform Sibelius' lush and technically dazzling Violin Concerto (the originally scheduled repertoire for this performance). The originally scheduled soloist for these performances, Hilary Hahn, has withdrawn as she is expecting a baby. Ms. Gomyo previously performed with the CSO in 2004 at Riverbend Music Center; this will be her Music Hall debut with the CSO.

Cincinnati Pops Orchestra Conductor John Morris Russell will spend the day with the MYCincinnati string youth orchestra on Friday, July 31, rehearsing with the student musicians from 1:30-3:45 p.m. and conducting a performance beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Price Hill Recreation Center, 959 Hawthorne Ave. This performance is free and open to the public.

Violinist Jennifer Koh and pianist Shai Wosner have come together to combine their personal and musical experiences in a collaborative project titled Bridge to Beethoven that explores the impact and significance Beethoven has had on a culturally diverse group of composers and musicians. The recital series pairs Beethoven's Complete Violin Sonatas with works by composers of different ethnic lineage in four distinct programs featuring three works commissioned for the series by Vijay Iyer, Andrew Norman, and Anthony Cheung which serve as companion pieces to select sonatas, and Jörg Widmann's Sommersonate.

Pacific Symphony Kicks Off SYMPHONY IN THE CITIES Concerts Today

Orange County, Calif.—July 7, 2015—“Symphony in the Cities” is not only the perfect way to end a lazy summer day, but it's also Pacific Symphony's way of saying thanks to the community by throwing a big party with music for its Orange County neighbors! Each summer, thousands gather with their loved ones to enjoy listening to the orchestra in a relaxed outdoor setting. This season, in addition to patriotic fare and classical pieces, Music Director Carl St.Clair has invited five singers to pay tribute to the famous von Trapps by performing memorable songs from one of the most beloved musicals of all time, “The Sound of Music.” Members of the audience also have a special opportunity to decide which of three well-known excerpts they would like to hear: Dvorák's Symphony No. 9, “From the New World,” Mozart's “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (A Little Night Music),” or Beethoven's Symphony No. 5. Families are encouraged to bring picnics, blankets and chairs and arrive early for the Symphony's Musical Playground and city festivities.

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) and University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) are honored to announce the two institutions are the combined recipient of a $900,000 grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. This grant will be used to pilot a groundbreaking collaborative fellowship program aimed at developing young, graduate-level musicians from underrepresented populations and preparing them for the professional orchestra world.
