The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra welcomes the Providence Singers to the stage for their tenth joint performance of Handel's Messiah. Providence Singers Artistic Director Christine Noel takes the podium as guest conductor for this perennial favorite holiday concert. The performance features a family-friendly start time of 7:00pm on Today, December 10 at The VETS in Providence.  Soloists include soprano Margot Rood, mezzo-soprano Christina English, tenor Marcio de Oliveira and bass Nicholas Laroche.

Cellist Ralph Kirshbaum and Pianist Shai Wosner to Release All-Beethoven Disc, Today

Internationally-renowned cellist Ralph Kirshbaum and pianist Shai Wosner release an all-Beethoven disc on the Onyx Classics label on December 9, 2016.  The duo's album, which was recorded live in London's Wigmore Hall, consists of the complete Beethoven cello sonatas and variations, to be released as a two-disc set.  Last season, Kirshbaum and Wosner performed Beethoven cycles extensively throughout the United States and Europe; the tour culminated with a performance of the complete cycle in London, recorded for Onyx Classics.  Mr. Kirshbaum and Mr. Wosner continue their performances of Beethoven's complete works for cello and piano in March, with a two-concert series at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, followed by a performance with Chamber Music Sedona in Arizona.

Canton Symphony Announces Bilingual Component

While music is often described as the international language, spoken languages are our major means of communication.  The Canton Symphony Orchestra will use music to familiarize children to English and Spanish vocabulary through the SymphonyLand trio series.  The trios introduce children to the instruments of the orchestra in an interactive format based on a children's storybook and created specifically to engage young listeners.  The series begins with the string trio on Wednesday January 11 and Saturday January 14 at 10am and 11am each day in Foundation Hall of the Zimmermann Symphony Center (2331 17th Street NW, Canton).  The woodwind trio follows on February 8 and 11 and the brass trio on March 8 and 11.  The series culminates with the full orchestra Kinder Concert in May.
