The Halalisa Singers Present STARS OF WONDER, Today

World music choral ensemble The Halalisa Singers present Stars of Wonder, a concert of contemporary choral classics for the holiday season, on Today, December 3, 8 pm, at First Parish Church, 7 Harrington Road, Lexington and Sunday December 4, 3 pm at First Parish Church, 327 Concord Road, Sudbury.  The ensemble is led by Artistic Director Mary Cunningham and accompanied by Trevor Berens, piano.
Minnesota Orchestra Reports Fiscal 2016 Balanced Budget

The Minnesota Orchestra's 2016 Annual Meeting today celebrated the artistic and financial milestones of the Orchestra's 2015-16 season, a year in which the Orchestra returned to Carnegie Hall and Europe, completed its celebrated Sibelius symphonies recording cycle, launched a new education program for high school students—and achieved a balanced budget. Marilyn Carlson Nelson, who was announced as the Orchestra's Chair Elect in September, was elected Board Chair by the Orchestra's Board of Directors, succeeding Warren Mack, who completed a two-year term.

New Philharmonic Rings in the New Year with Three Concerts at the MAC

New Philharmonic, under the direction of Maestro Kirk Muspratt, performs three "New Year's Eve with an International Twist" concerts at the McAninch Arts Center (MAC), Saturday, Dec. 31 at 2, 5:30 and 9 p.m. The program features classical and pop works plus a celebratory champagne toast and special surprises. Continuing their tradition of featuring soloists from the Lyric Opera Ryan Center for Young Artists, tenor Jesse Donner joins New Philharmonic and Maestro Muspratt for this wonderful New Year's Eve tradition. For the fourth year in a row, 98.7 FM-WFMT will provide a live broadcast of the 5:30 p.m. performance.
Pilgrim Festival Chorus to Present AROUND THE WORLD CHRISTMAS

Pilgrim Festival Chorus (PFC), the region's principal community chorus, presents three Around the World Christmas concerts, each at 7:30 pm, today, December 2 at Central Congregational Church, 2 Webster Street, Middleborough; Saturday, December 3 at St. Bonaventure Church, 803 State Road, Plymouth; and Sunday, December 4 at First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, 842 Tremont Street, Duxbury. The chorus is conducted by Music Director William B. Richter and accompanied by Assistant Director Elizabeth Chapman Reilly.

San Francisco Opera Resident Conductor Jordi Bernàcer Takes the Podium for Performances 12/2–­ 8

Beginning this Friday, San Francisco Opera Resident Conductor Jordi Bernacer will take the podium to lead four programs over a span of seven days. Bernacer, who made his Company conducting debut with a performance of Bizet's Carmen last summer, will conduct the final fall season performances of Puccini's Madama Butterfly (December 4) and Verdi's Aida (December 6) at the War Memorial Opera House, a concert of opera scenes and arias showcasing the San Francisco Opera Adler Fellows at Herbst Theatre (December 2), and a concert featuring the string section of the San Francisco Opera Orchestra (December 8) in the intimate Dianne and Tad Taube Atrium Theater at the Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera.

Music Director Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in Brahms's Symphony No. 3 and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, Emperor, with Stephen Hough as soloist, Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, January 12 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, January 13 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, January 14 at 8:00 p.m. The January 14 performance will be broadcast on Facebook Live, the Philharmonic's second live concert broadcast on Facebook, following the 2016-17 season Opening Gala Concert. Hosted by WQXR's Terrance McKnight and directed by Habib Azar, the live, online broadcast - available at facebook.com/nyphilharmonic - will also feature live interviews with the evening's artists. The concert will be available for on-demand viewing on the Philharmonic's website, YouTube, and Facebook through August 31, 2017.

Under the baton of music director conductor George Rothman, Riverside Symphony will present the second installment of its 2016-17 season at Alice Tully Hall on Saturday evening, January 28. From Jacques Ibert's effervescent Parisian Music Hall time (Divertissement) to Juan Trigos' endearingly brash bass concerto, a confident assimilation of high and low culture, to a wittily buoyant, little-known Haydn symphony, the program shows composers in a largely (though by no means exclusively) carefree musical state of mind.

The Los Angeles Master Chorale will present its first performances of Beethoven's powerful Missa solemnis in 13 years on its own concert series on Saturday, January 21 at 2 PM and Sunday, January 22 at 7 PM at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Heralded as a pillar of the choral and orchestral repertoire, the work is considered a specialty of the Master Chorale that last performed the work with Artistic Director Grant Gershon in Disney Hall in 2004.

The 12th annual performances of Too Hot to Handel: The Jazz-Gospel Messiah take place at the Auditorium Theatre on January 14 and 15, the weekend before Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Renowned soloists Rodrick Dixon, Alfreda Burke, and Karen Marie Richardson join legendary pianist Alvin Waddles in the celebratory production, which features a choir of over 100 choir members and musicians. Too Hot to Handel is based on George Frideric Handel's Messiah, and pairs Handel's traditional classical score with jazz, gospel, and blues.

Bach Magnificat at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, December 18, 2016 at 3pm. This program features one of J.S. Bach's greatest masterpieces for choir and orchestra as it was heard during a Christmas Vespers service in Leipzig in 1723. PBO's Juno Award-winning Music Director Alexander Weimann leads the Pacific Baroque Orchestra and five internationally-renowned guest soloists in this seasonal celebration and annual tradition.

On Today, November 29 at 8:00PM at the St. Ignatius of Antioch Church, 552 West End Ave. at 87th St, American Classical Orchestra presents a program of J.S Bach's cantatas; Es wartet alles auf dich, opening chorus BWV 187; Nun Komm der Heiden Heiland, opening chorus BWV 62; Christ lag in Todesbanden, BWV 4;  Cantata: Aus der Tiefen rufe ich, BWV 131;  Cantata: Nach dir, Herr, verlanget mich BWV 150 ,  Meine  Seel erhebt den Herren, opening chorus BWV 10 and  Sinfonia from Cantata: Ich habe meine Zuversicht, BWV 188. Cantatas were the daily work of the master composer. A selection of Bach's most uplifting cantatas will be sung by the acclaimed American Classical Orchestra Chorus with selected soloists in the ideal acoustic hall of St. Ignatius of Antioch Church. This concert is conducted by Thomas Crawford.
