Canton, OH (January 13, 2015) - Indie folk rock band, The Speedbumps, will unite with The Canton Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, February 7, 2015 for a joint performance showcasing their soulful Americana music inspired by their working class lives in the Rust Belt region of Ohio. Featuring songs from their recent album, "The Harbors We Seek," and many other fan favorites, the band will share the stage with the 39-piece orchestra at 8:00 pm inside the Canton Palace Theater. Special guest folk songwriter and guitarist, Roger Hoover, will open the show.
The two groups first performed together back in October of 2012, when the Symphony's Executive Director, Michelle Mullaly proposed the idea after seeing the five-member ensemble play at a local venue in Canton. "The Speedbumps' sound definitely lends itself to being backed by an orchestra, and what we discovered through our collaboration is that the Northeast Ohio audience is hungry for symphonic adaptations of popular music created by homegrown artists," she noted. Not only does the band write its own award-winning music, some of which has been licensed to feature films and TV shows, but The Speedbumps' bassist, Kevin Martinez, also developed the full score for every section of the orchestra in preparation for the show. With a Masters Degree in Music Composition from DePaul University and a detailed understanding of The Speedbumps' musical style, Martinez is uniquely qualified to write all the arrangements for the strings, brass, woodwind and percussion sections of the 78-year old orchestra, bringing additional depth to the performance. Tickets are $18 - $28 for the show and can be purchased online at cantonsymphony.org or by phone at 330-452-2094.
