LETTERS TO LORETTA FROM THE RADIO SHACK, A TRUE WWII TEENAGE LOVE STORY Receives Rave Reviews by BWW News Desk
- December 16, 2014 The non-fiction book, 'Letters to Loretta from the Radio Shack, A True WWII Teenage Love Story,' released on November 17, has received numerous top reviews in the few short weeks it has been available.
Written by Crystal Lake, Ill., author, Laura Lynn Ashworth, the book is the true dramatic tale of the relationship between two teens, one on a minesweeper and the other in Chicago, during the final climatic years of WWII, 1943-1945. Ashworth has pledged to donate ten percent of her proceeds to the USO and VFW in memory of the veterans, Hollywood entertainers and WWII musicians referenced in the book.
The reviews came from both book industry professionals and book reviewers.
R. Alan Lewis, President of Ground Zero Books, Ltd., located in Silver Spring, Md., commented, 'We have been in the book business for nearly 40 years, and I have never experienced a book with the warmth, sensitivity, insight and humanity in a wartime setting as have been presented through these letters. There has probably not been a sense of shipboard life since Mr. Roberts. Through the letters one can also capture to a greater degree than I have seen before, a sense of the impact of the war on the nearly adult on the homefront.'
Dianna Skowera, author and book reviewer, said, 'Letters To Loretta From the Radio Shack is a delightful time capsule of star-crossed love during the war of all wars. Laura Lynn Ashworth has arranged a superbly poignant collection of letters that give insight into a world modern film and literature have yet to capture. It speaks its own refreshingly honest language that you won't find anywhere else - Laura Lynn Ashworth hasn't tainted the dialogue of the letters and allows you to grow with the characters from beginning to end.'
Jack Magnus, book reviewer, reported, 'Laura Lynn Ashworth's historical non-fiction work, is a fascinating look at the 1940s through the eyes of two young people in vastly different places. It's also a unique and marvelous coming of age saga as the two experience life and share their hopes and dreams. It's highly recommended.'
'Letters to Loretta from the Radio Shack,' is available at Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble and e-bookstores. Orders can also be placed at: http://LauraLynnAshworth.com. Special discounts are being offered for military, veteran, library, school, book club, and bulk orders.
Danica-Lea Larcombe Releases Second Travel Narrative ABANDONED IN PARIS by BWW News Desk
- December 16, 2014 Australian author Danica-Lea Larcombe has published her second major travel narrative through Blurb.com, the independent online publishing platform.
Danica is on her second journey around the world, but this time she has a partner to contend with. Soon after they leave he turns nasty, threatening to leave her behind in London. In Amsterdam, he gets her deliberately lost while negotiating canals on an old Dutch bicycle. She struggles with an insufficient map getting him lost in Toulouse in a camper-van that will not fit down the back streets. He decides to drive for three days solid from Bavaria to Portugal then kicks her out of the camper in France.
Danica arrives in Paris in a dazed shock with enough money to last just two weeks. She has to somehow find accommodation and get her life back together. With no home to go back to she decides she just has to carry on travelling on her around-the-world ticket.
Author Michael Pelusey (www.pelusey.com), comments 'Danica took me on her journey of adventure and self-discovery in her second book, Abandoned in Paris. Every good travel memoir reveals not just the physical journey that the reader can follow, but also the inner personal journey the author goes through. The ups and downs of travelling with a partner that sadly goes pear-shaped are well and truly revealed in a warts and all deeply personal memoir. Danica doesn't hold back resulting in a captivating read that shows vividly that good travel writing is much more than just a travelogue.'
Between discovering Italy, the United States, Alaska, Canada, and Costa Rica she rediscovers herself while regaining her confidence and zest for life.
Finally she gets transported back in time in Cuba where the opportunity for romance is everywhere. Between the horse trainer, the cabaret dancer and the cheeky tour guide, which one will take her fancy?
Ms Larcombe says: 'I successfully published Pushing the Boundaries: A Mission to See the World in 2009 and this latest trip three years ago also involved hand writing two diaries. The book is titled Abandoned in Paris, has 370 pages and can be found at Amazon http://amzn.com/1320270794.'
Danica-Lea Larcombe is 47 years old and works in the Environmental Health field in Perth, Western Australia. She lives at North Beach in Perth, and can be contacted by email at thetravelwriter@iinet.com.au
