War is imminent. Guilt weighs heavily on the newly crowned King Henry (Jasper Britton) after offing his rival King Richard. And Prince Hal (Alex Hassell) is carousing with ne’er-do-wells at the tavern. So begins Henry IV Part I, continuing the Royal Shakespeare Company’s sweeping cycle King and Country, directed by Gregory Doran. Shuttling between dingy alehouse and cloistered court and imbued with live music, Part I chronicles Prince Hal’s transition from wayward son—enabled by the hobbling drunk Falstaff (played with roguish charm by Olivier Award-winning actor Antony Sher)—to right-hand man on the eve of an epoch-defining battle.
