Epidemic at Coolidge Corner Theatre

Lars von Trier's sophomore feature Epidemic is a jet-black comedy of contagion and a subversive metacinematic provocation, born from a bet that he couldn't make a film for less than $150,000. The film blends medical horror with self-reflexive storytelling, channeling von Trier's singular thematic obsessions into an evocatively lo-fi freak-out. This screening is part of the Coolidge Corner Theatre's May repertory series Take Two: Filmmaking in the Movies, co-presented by MUBI, which explores the many ways filmmakers chase inspiration, wrestle with failure, and cut together something worth watching.
