Adia & Clora Snatch Joy, with book, libretto, and lyrics by Mfoniso Udofia and music composed by Michael Ellis Ingram, is the world premiere folk opera that brings the Ufot Family Cycle to its conclusion at the Huntington Theatre. Set in the marshes of South Carolina, the story follows Clora Abernathy and Adiaha Ufot — two dutiful daughters who have devoted their lives to their parents — as an unexpected connection between them raises a life-changing question about desire, pleasure, and joy. Composed for a cappella voices, the work breaks new ground as the final chapter of the celebrated nine-play, citywide cycle. Directed by Awoye Timpo, the production can be experienced as a standalone story or as the culmination of the full Ufot Family Cycle.
