Absolutely.
Book-wise, it probably has some of the most dialogue of all of the nominees therefore giving much to be considered.
It also happens to be one of the most clever and ingenious books of the season, never mind HYSTERICAL. Anyone with a theater sensibility would be taken by the book alone, and I'd think that Tony voters would be that exact niche group.
I love America. Just because I think gay dudes should be allowed to adopt kids and we should all have hybrid cars doesn't mean I don't love America.

Closed shows have won Tony Awards before, it's not that far fetched.
I would love to see [title of show] win Best Book. It's really well-written, and it would be great to see this little show get some recognition from the Tonys.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Plus, since it's only nominated in the one category, if the community wants to honor it at all (and we all know how much theatre insiders love the show), it'll have to be in the one category, which could push it over the top.
And, it's a damn good book. Hilarious and heartfelt.

Doesn't it? I'm pretty sure there is a consensus the Tony Award voters seem to favour shows that might succeed financially.

YES! YES! YES IT CAN! It can win it all! I think it's best chances are for Best Musical and Best Actress in a Musical! But it will definitely be going home with an armful of trophies that night!
P.S. And to all you haters who said that TOS wasn't going to RE-open before the Tonys I KNOW FOR A FACT that they are going to open AFTER THE TONYS so that they can cash in on all the TONY hype (lie Xanadu) and THEN they will be eligible for a BEST REVIVAL TONY next year! HA!

Except not because I believe the rules state that there must be at least three years between productions for it to be considered a revival. That's why GRINCH wasn't eligible last year.

Posted: 5/6/09 at 11:06amThe thing I think the [tos] book has going for it is that it's an original work not based on source material. Also, the fact that the show has closed shouldn't matter as much since, unlike a performance which leaves with the show, a book can live on on paper.

Posted: 5/6/09 at 11:41amI believe an HBO broadcast of TOS was announced on here by some of the TOSsers. That proved to be no more accurate than when they announced TOS sold out run, TOS's return to Broadway, TOS's return to Off-Broadway, the TOS tour, the DVD release or the Pulitzer.
