This should go on the student board. But here are some suggestions:
Anything Goes Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Guys and Dolls The Wiz Annie Bye Bye Birdie Peter Pan Into the Woods (Jr. Edition, even though I think the idea of it is deplorable) Cats
along with Annie and Wizard of Oz we did The Music Man
You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl
"If artists were machines, then I'm just a different kind of machine...I'd probably be a toaster. Actually, I'd be a toaster oven because they're more versatile. And I like making grilled cheese" -Regina Spektor
"That's, like, twelve shows! ...Or seven." -Crazy SA Fangirl
"They say that just being relaxed is the most important thing [in acting]. I take that to another level, I think kinda like yawning and...like being partially asleep onstage is also good, but whatever." - Sherie Rene Scott
Guys and Dolls Once on this Island Seussical Music Man
(All of the Above are available as Jr.s)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Fiddler on the Roof Jr . is a wonderful piece for Middle Schools. i did it in 8th grade.. Students, Staff, and Parents loved it.
"There's nothing good on. The media hates Christmas. The media loves vampires, though. Maybe they will show a Twilight Christmas." -Danmeg's 10 year old son.
And in case you go looking for it, "Ducktails and Bobby Socks" is also available under the title "Pompadours and Poodle Skirts." Why? I don't know. Either way, it's the same cheesy show I have no desire to see/hear ever again (you'd feel the same way if the "children's theatre" class at your HS has done it three years in a row! "Children's Theatre" was the nice name for the class the kids who should have quit after "Intro to Theatre" got dumped into).
However, if you enjoy that kind of show, there's also "The Nifty Fifties" aka "Rock Around the Block." That was the first children's show my school decided to do...they thought it would be a nice alternative for the families with little kids who wouldn't come see our "Grease"...
Probably the best middle school, or any production for that matter, was my old middle school's recent production of (the full) Beauty & the Beast. I really don't know how they did it, but they performed on a gigantic budget, renting excellent costumes and sets, special effects (including the beast transformation), and the kids did a great job.
I was Portia in the R&H Cinderella in the 8th grade. It's a great musical for middle school because they are all roles easily played by middle schoolers, and it's not hard to sing. And, yes, I'm a dude.
"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert
i don't know why middle schools insist on doing musicals when the kids are clearly not ready for the roles. i don't think that any middle school can do justice to any broadway musical and therefore should be banned from ever even attempting them. why can't they just do reviews with litle kid songs and be happy?

My middle school did a great job with Cabaret, Jr. I played Sally Bowles. At the end, I got a tummy ache. Everyone said it was better than the original.

Of course. It was an all-boys catholic middle school. You would have loved it. Of course we had to change the antisemitism to a dislike of Catholics, but I don't think the material was harmed.
A middle school in a town near me did "Narnia: the Musical"
I'm a professional. Whenever something goes wrong on stage, I know how to handle it so no one ever remembers. I flash my %#$&.
"Jayne just sat there while Gina flailed around the stage like an idiot."
Well, first off, what kind of talent do you have? Do you have and standouts with real singing/acting/dancing chops that could carry the role of Annie, or Oliver, or Sandy, or...Most musicals have at least a few leads that really do need to be able to sing well. Our middle school drama coach recently auditioned all the kids BEFORE deciding on a show because she wanted to see what he had. A lot of the kids didn't like that though, not wanting to audition unless they knew what show it was going to ne.
When I was in middle school they did "Into the Woods" (the Jr. version). I don't remember anything specific about it, just that it was such a trainwreck that it tainted my impression of Into the Woods for years and years. I "re-discovered" it this past year by watching the OBC DVD of it and now it's one of my all-time favorite shows. If I saw that middle school production now I would probably be laughing my ass off and terrified at the same time. I think middle schools should stick to Seussical, Annie, Disney shows, etc. Updated On: 4/28/09 at 07:19 PM
