I'm unable to go (stupid work) so I thought I'd start the thread to see if anyone else was going and to, later, use to post the winners, what everyone's bonnets looked like, and who performed what.

Hope everyone going has a blast!

Really, how can any hat competition compare to Aretha at the inauguration? Shouldn't any and all hat events for 2009 be cancelled?

Any reports from people who went to today's show?

And that was just the opening number!

How was the "Miranda Sings" performance?

I'm curious to know! haha

Miranda Sings (aka the Mamma Mia number) was fabulous. It started with a modern dancey number to Bette Midler's "The Rose" that no one was sure whether to take seriously or not (Miranda had done the voiceover introduction). Then out comes Miranda wearing a giant rose bouquet bonnet, singing while the cast ran around her with ribbons as if she were a May pole. It was hilarious, but didn't get much of a reaction. I don't think enough people knew who she was.

Jane Fonda and 33 Variations definitely stole the show, though. Absolutely hilarious.

aw really? From everyone's reaction to her videos, I though the majority of people would know who she was..

IT was pretty hilarious, but the reaction was not what I was expecting.

Also, Trevor Braun's "Tony Worthy Performance" was really funny.

West Side Story did mystery skit about rehearsing for the Easter Bonnet and someone had stolen their bonnet. It was cute.

I had no idea who the Youtube chic was supposed be in the MAMMA MIA number. It didn't help that I was sitting next to some family members of the cast that were laughing themselves to death. I felt like half of the audience had no clue either.

* * * SPOILERS * * *

GUYS & DOLLS did "Fugue For Tinhorns", except changed the lyrics to reflect gay marriage rights, followed by Nick Adams rising out from the stage wearing their Easter bonnet, clad in a dancebelt.

WICKED made fun of the "Octo-Mom" by shooting babies out from underneath Nicole Parker. The last baby that shot out from delivery was green. The ensemble proceeded to jump rope with each baby and their umbilical cord.

WSS did a bit about how Liza stole their Easter bonnet.

CHICAGO did a medley of "Cellblock Tango", but each of the vixens were cast members from one of six shows that closed in January.

PHANTOM OF THE OPERA did a gag entitled [sequel of show]. You all can do the math on that one...

AVENUE Q performed "You're Nothing Without Me" from City of Angels between Howie Michael Smith and another cast member as Rod. Their feud ended when John Tartaglia took the stage to show them both up.

SHREK made fun of WSS and some other shows by inserting fart noises throughout compromising dance moves and choreography in different shows.

LION KING performed "The Circle of Life" with a play on costumes and character changes that would take effect when the show opens in Las Vegas: Tina Turner as Rafiki, Kanye West as Simba, Elvis as Mufasa.

MARY POPPINS performed numbers from different shows and the effects of incorporating tap into each of them. If you looked closely, you could see Scarlett Strallen performing in the back with the ensemble.

I really liked Avenue Q's skit! Very cute. (and that was where the Aretha hat made its appearance)

Do you remember who they were? I'm already laughing at the thought of Marissa Perry in that number. And, yes, I know that Marissa wasn't the final Tracy.

Sorry, let me clarify. Cast members of Chicago were portraying bitter characters of other closed shows: Spamalot, Hairspray, Gypsy, Spring Awakening, Young Frankenstein, Avenue Q (the joke is that the show is in the red, but still not closed).

Haha...I had totally pictures Kirsten Wyatt, Marissa Perry, Merle Dandridge, Jessica Rush, Heather Ayers, etc in those black outfits. But I guess what they did is more amusing. Did they change the lyrics to link in the various closed shows?

Yup, it was called the "Chopping Block Tango." The lyrics were about the producers who'd shut them down, I believe. Definitely a highlight.

My favorite was the Spring Awakening section was the Velma section and instead of it being Number 17#: The Spread Eagle, it was The Bendover. Also the lyric of "Totally F*CKed is more than a song."

My favorite was the Mary Poppins Tap skit. I am so ready to plop down some money to see the tap version of West Side Story or the Jersey Boys. it was wonderfully choreographed.

There were many wonderful skits, but the tap one was the one that had me curious about going back to see some shows I had seen years ago. If only.

Naked Boys Singing took over this years serious dance piece from The Lion King, and did a beautiful job, it was quite moving. But the highlight of the show to me (on Tuesday) was Tovah Feldshuh. What an incredibly funny woman. She was only introducing skits, but she kept the whole audience in stitches. My favorite was a joke I believe she also told at the Broadway beauty pageant. The one about the jewish blind man reading the matzoh and saying "Who wrote this ****." Hysterical.
What did people think about Liza during the opening, I was quite sad afterwards.

Wasn't there, but saw a picture of her in the number. What about it made you sad? Thanks.

Those pictures are great. Wish there were captions though. Some I could figure out what they were based on comments here. Others I couldn't.

That was hilarious.

What was so sad about Liza in the opening? Her voice is clearly a bit weak, but she was clearly having a ball and was a joy to watch.
