What's the deal? I have the "old" version (With 'Being Bouvier' & the cut songs) and I decided to break down and get the new one and when I go to Amazon, it's the old version I already have. Does anyone know what the deal is? They can't really be selling that old version still, can they?
No, it's essentially the same CD. The only things that were really re-recorded were songs that feature Erin Davie and the new songs. If you read in the booklet, it even says that Sara Gettelfinger is still singing the chorus parts of "House We Live In" and "Choose to Be Happy."
Oh, most of the songs are the same? I was sent a copy recently of the Broadway cast recording. I've had the Off-B'way recording since I saw the show and haven't been able to tell a difference, but just assumed they were different... shows you how little I listened to the Off-B'way recording :-/.
"If it walks like a Parks, if it wobbles like a Parks, then it's definitely fat and nobody loves it." --MA
The artwork they show for the album they're selling on Amazon is that of the Broadway cast album.
The tracklist is from the Off-Broadway recording.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

I was just about to post the same as WannaBe. It's the cover from the OBC but the tracks are from the Off-Broadway album. The OP probably got this one thinking it was a different one. I have both and prefer the Broadway cast recording by a hundred times. Erin Davie gave such a fantastic performance, can't believe she wasn't nominated for a Tony.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
So the OP bought a digital copy of the Off-Broadway cast recording with the Broadway cast recording cover art and is not noticing a difference? That would make sense...
I think all the people who get outraged about community theateres ripping off the pro designs need to channel that outrage and have them correct this travesty of misinformation immediately. Immediately!
I think what happened is that the UPCs of the off-Broadway and the Broadway versions are the same. I work in the Music department at my local Barnes and Noble, and twice, I had to send back the Off-Broadway version to the vendor to get the Broadway version.
"[Gore] was widely perceived as arrogant. If you know something, you're not smart. You're a smarty-pants. It's annoying. People get annoyed with your knowledge. It goes back to high school, to not doing your homework ... 'There's something I should know, I don't know why I should know it but someone knows it and I don't. So I'm going to have to make fun of him now.'"

I thought I heard that they were going to phase out the Off-Bway Recording and only produce the OBCR. But where ever I went I could only find the Off-Bway CD which I'd already bought off iTunes. I had to order the OBCR directly from PS Classics.
I actually prefer Better Fall Out of Love to Goin' Places I'm drawn between Being Bouvier and Marry Well though.
You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl
"If artists were machines, then I'm just a different kind of machine...I'd probably be a toaster. Actually, I'd be a toaster oven because they're more versatile. And I like making grilled cheese" -Regina Spektor
"That's, like, twelve shows! ...Or seven." -Crazy SA Fangirl
"They say that just being relaxed is the most important thing [in acting]. I take that to another level, I think kinda like yawning and...like being partially asleep onstage is also good, but whatever." - Sherie Rene Scott
I uploaded my OBC onto Itunes the other day and it gave me the cover work for the off-Broadway disc.
I agree, the OBC is a huge improvement quality wise. And Erin Davie is a huge improvement over the rather grating Sara Gettelfinger (who, for the record, I throughly enjoyed in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels).
Sarah is singing in the chorus of "Choose to Be Happy?"
They only supplemented in Davie's solo?
I love America. Just because I think gay dudes should be allowed to adopt kids and we should all have hybrid cars doesn't mean I don't love America.

They have the same UPC. When the Broadway album was recorded and released, it was to replace the off-Broadway album, which the authors no longer wanted sold, as it did not reflect the final version of the show (at the time the off-Broadway was recorded by us, who knew that it would transfer to Broadway and win two Tonys, or that Gettlefinger would be replaced?). The best way to do that was to recall and sell through the old version, and release the new version with the same UPC to effectively replace it. We at PS Classics did that, re-recording Erin Davie (and numbers that included Erin), but using some tracks where Sara was in the "chorus" ("Choose to be Happy"). The orchestra was sweetened with the Broadway orchestrations. The entire album was remixed to be of one whole cloth, redesigned, and issued. The off-Broadway album has been on sale for $4.95 exclusively at PS Classics until they are all sold. Once they are gone, they are gone forever, as it cannot be repressed in the "old" version.
Of all the e-tailers out there, only Amazon cannot seem to get it right. Either the track listing or the cover is wrong and when we request the change, the other one gets affected.
But, if you buy it from Amazon, you will receive the Broadway version of the album.
We haven't pressed them since before it moved to Broadway, and have all of them in-house so the off-Broadway album is only available at PSClassics.com.
But, if you buy it from Amazon, you will receive the Broadway version of the album.
That's if you buy the actual CD, though, right? If you buy it digitally from Amazon you're still getting the Off-Broadway cast recording which still features the Broadway cover art.
