So I was going over some of the Millennium Stage "Broadway Today and Tomorrow" performances on the Kennedy Center website and heard in today's performance with SJB that her album should be in stores on or around April 1.
That may change, but its the first date we've heard and it's straight from her mouth. Just in case anyone was interested. =)

Does anyone know what songs she will be putting on the CD? And when it is expected to be realized?
I love Stephanie. I think she has an absolutely gorgeous voice. Definitely one of my favorites. I'm very excited about this album.

Posted: 2/4/09 at 11:32pmShe's mentioned recording "Making Good", Deborah Abramson's "Gotta Start Small", and "Never Neverland" (I believe). One of the songs she sang at Millennium Stage tonight is apparently going to be on there as well; I'm not sure about the title but it was one of Paul Loesel's songs.

That last bit about Loesel is interesting, Changinandhow. When I first read your comment I had seen only part of the performance and was thinking it might be "Invention" which was pretty funny or the duet that goes "that's just the natural order of things" which I thought was beautiful too.
But I saw the rest and the song appearing on SJB's album is "Life Starts Clapping" by the poet Hafiz. Its a lovely little song that uses a different sound from Stephanie than we might be used to. So far it seems like a good range; I'm excited to hear what else will be on the record.

I really liked the Hafiz piece; she also apparently recorded another of the songs from that performance for her CD. It's the earlier piece about the woman who is asked out on a second date. Very fast and a bit tongue-twistery. Can't remember the name of it, but it's fun (though I liked the Hafiz song better).
So far, it looks like a pretty eclectic mix for Stephanie's CD. Wonder if it'll be self-titled (or if she'll go with something like "Much Joy").

Any word on the album? It supposedly comes out on or around April 1 if we go by what Mrs. Block said at the Kennedy Center. But it seems like the release might be pushed back if there is no news. Unless it is common for Broadway artists to release albums without much advertising?
Apparently Dolly Parton updated a blog and said she got into the studio with SJB to record "I Will Always Love You." I'd be interested to hear that!
