Never seen the show but must say that Elizabeth is "hot".
As my late grandma said once to my cousin "don't call me nigga, nigga!"
This is the first time I've ever used the word (or any derivative) online. Just don't like it and have no habit of using it within or without the home.
javero, did i just see you lookin' at that there white woman?

I agree with Elisabeth to a degree. I however want to stuff Sherri's nasty wig in her mouth and shut her up. I find it so hypocritical to say "I can say it but you can't", because basically if you don't want to hear someone else say it, don't say it your damn self. What an ignorant bitch.
The word exists, yes, but how can you take the negativity out of it if you keep perpetuating it the way the majority sees the minority being offended?
I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. I want to live every whichway, among all kinds---and know them---and understand them---and love them---THAT's what I want! - Philip Barry (Holiday)

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I get what Elisabeth is trying to say, but for me being in my twenties I grew up with it being okay for black people to use the word and not okay for me to use it. I guess I'm just used to hearing it and not speaking it and that's okay with me. I'm fine with whatever people want to refer to themselves as in whatever definition they want to use as long as it's not hurting anyone. At the same time don't call me a f*g. It's the same sort of thing where gay people sort of "took it back", but it's still offensive to me so I prefer not to use it and not to hear it.
too bad cats. sad to see you've been brainwashed by the hypocritical "ok for them, but not for me" liberal media. if something is not ok, it is not ok for all.
I think it's much better if everyone just says whatever they want to say. If someone uses the "N" word or the "F-gg-t" term at least you know where that person stands. I'd rather know what a person thinks of me, then for them to be silenced and leave me guessing what their ideology is.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

liberal media is trying to get you ok with two layers of thinking so that they can keep affirmative action going by making you feel guilty for something done in the past, that you didn't do and get no benefit from.
What do you mean by Liberal Media? I would love to find some liberal media but the only news sources I can find are owned by huge corporations and want to further their own interests.
I just didn't like the way Elisabeth kept butting in- like she always does. Even Whoopi tried to "control" her. It's okay to state your opinion but please stop interrupting others when it's their turn! I could see Whoopi was starting to get frustrated. Luckily, my girl Jane Seymour, classed the day up!
I agree with Elisabeth as well, and I usually don't. I used to be a HS teacher and some of the black kids would use it in my classroom, and I absolutely refused to allow it.
true tag. again "ok for me but bad for you" the blacks in this country want equality weighted on their side: like AFFIRMATIVE ACTIONS. whoopi is just another liberal equality-hater.
Actually- everyone is always interrupting on that show! (Elisabeth just annoys me the most) One time, I closed my eyes while I was watching and no one got to finish their sentence. Joy is really bad about that too! I do not believe the n-word is acceptable. I did think it was funny that Joy thought the n-word was nuts! Point taken Tag! Updated On: 7/17/08 at 05:01 PM
Well, I don't watch this show. But I checked out the clip.
I think Elisabeth needs to shut the hell up and calm down... but she's also right.
The whole approach from Whoopi and (Sherri, I think, because I don't know these people) is one of exclusivity. We have a "right" to say the word but you don't. Not only is it hypocritical, it reminds me of that old "we have a right to sit at the front of the bus, but you don't" mentality.
Dangerous stuff there.
It's unhealthy, and only serves to promote hatred, and the segregation of cultures and people.
So keep on using it, then. And keep those separating "walls" high and firmly in place.

the difference is, Elizabeth felt threatened when someone else did not agree with her. Whoppi did not. simple as that.
i am in agreement with CATS on this. it's OK for a black person to say the N-Word but not me. just like i use the word F-gg-t & would not like to hear a straight person use the word. it's about taking the moment of pain and transferring it. if you never heard that word used against you negatively, why would you need to take it and use it in another context? you just look dumb doing it.
not saying i don't look dumb re-using the F-gg-t word but whatever...that's my right in doing so. the problem is, it's just so durn catchy! Updated On: 7/17/08 at 05:35 PM
I watch The View daily and guys, Elisabeth H. is a nutjob! Don't take anything she says (or in this case weeps) seriously. She's a conservative, which is fine, but she cannot explain why she thinks what she does. She won't shut up about the Rev. Wright thing, and Whoopi has gone so far as to tell her, on air, the subject is off the table. Whenever Whoopi tries to bring up McCain's many fumbles, Elisabeth just screams over her. She did the same thing with Rosie.
She's a waste of air and needs to be canned (besides Sheri is is conservative too and funnier). Don't take anythign she says seriously.
Search her name on youtube, there are some of the most hilarious videos, including one where Glenn Close refuses to shake her hand, that show just why she's so loathsome.
