I think that 6 might be a little young for ITH...I think you're probably better going to Mary Poppins, Lion King, or the Little Mermaid.

But if you don't want to see a disney show...i think cry baby, ACL, Grease, or Mama Mia might be a little more enjoyable of a 6 year old.

Cry Baby I think is a lot more inappropriate for a six year old than In the Heights.

Well... It depends, but i can give you some pointers. Decide what you think its best for your 6 yr old kid:

In The Heights- has minor language like "sh*t, skank" and has a scene that strongy insinuate pre-marital sex.

******

Xanadu- has minor language like.."b*tch" ..but I think that's the only one?

Legally Blonde- has some sexual inuendos, like sexy dancing, strip dancing-like
-there are minor language like "wh*re, b*tch.

Spring Awakening- has major language that may not be appropriate like f***
-has nudity and suggestions of masturbation
(this may not be appropriate for children- bec. it has scenes of
suicide, s&m)

Curtains- has major language like b*tch and so on.
- has a scene of violence- like a man was killed thru hanging by the rope.

Young Frankenstein- lotsa sexual inuendo scenes of sex acts and private parts that may be very inappropriate for 6 yrs old.

Well I hope that would help you decide what's best for your 6 yr old kid. Looks like your best choice (in my opinion) from your list is Xanadu. bUt I would probably suggest The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins or The Lion King..Its just some of your choices are NOT CLEARLY for 6 yrs old specially Spring Awakening & Young Frankenstein!

I don't think ITH is appropriate for a 6 year old, but I'd rather take a 6 year old to see that than A Chorus Line.

Yeah, to be honest, the only shows I would feel comfortable myself taking a 6 year old to are any of the Disney shows, or maybe Hairspray, although that one might be pushing it a little too.

I recommend:
Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy, Hairspray, Legally Blonde The Musical, Mary Poppins, Shrek the Musical, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, The Phantom of the Opera, and Wicked.

Avenue Q, Chicago, Billy Elliot, Rent, and Spring Awakening are the main shows to stay away from.

Anything else, is "in between". It wouldn't be number one on a list of shows to take a child to, but it wouldn't be a major caution, either.

I think it's fine. They actually cut out a lot of cursing so there is maybe 2 bad words in there but otherwise it is very good. People do kiss, if that bothers you. They may not get the jokes or understand it as well but they will probably love the music and dancing.

My six-year old LOVED In the Heights. Nothing inappropriate, really. Whatever might be interpreted as slightly suggestive will go over a six-year-old's head, but truly, there isn't much that's questionable.

He did not like The Little Mermaid. He and my daughter were frightened by a lot of it.

He didn't care much for Curtains. (Too much death for his tastes.)

I wouldn't even consider taking small children to see Spring Awakening.

Young Frankenstein would both scare and bore them.

They both loved Hairspray, which they have seen a few times, and Legally Blonde. Oh, and they liked Cry Baby, too.

Although they have not seen it yet, I think they would both enjoy Xanadu. I have seen it and do not think it contains anything inappropriate for kids.

They liked Mary Poppins but not Billy Elliott, which is somewhat violent for a child (well, mine thought it was, anyway.)

hmmm its a close call. I think everything will go over hear head. There are a few swears though idk if you're cool with that. (and jay, you REALLY think a 6 year old would get that ********SPOILER***** a girl coming onto a fire escape in a boy's night shirt ******** END SPOILER***** would mean that?) Also i'm not so sure she'll like it.

I saw Grease when I was 4 or 5 (my first broadway show!0 and loved it... that was also a good production though (lol)

I would say the Little Mermaid, the Lion King or Mary Poppins, and if she's a little more mature then maybe Wicked or Hairspray.

enjoy!

Xanadu is a good suggestion. Any "adult" jokes would probably go over her head but little girls her age usually love "sparkle" and, if anything, Xanadu has sparkle.

Colorful costumes, the roller skating, and the disco balls are probably right up her alley.

While Little Mermaid is certainly appropriate, it's not that good. And might be a little scary. Others I would consider: Mary Poppins, Grease, Hairspray, and especially Wicked.

I'm starting to think that maybe miss pennywise is making it up about her kids' theatre tastes. I don't know a 6 year old that has seen that many Broadway shows.
