It's a little disturbing and a little scary, but it's also pretty touching. I think that to a lot of fans it's almost the same as if the show were closing, and don't tell me that no one on this board has ever *not* cried at a show's closing before... re: Goodbye, Jonathan & Lea!

Anyway, I'm glad Jonathan and Lea both got a great send off and I'm glad that you guys had fun!

Agreed, Fromage.

I just issued a general statement because I didn't feel like singling out certain posters lest I be accused of "attacking" or something of that nature.

I just got back from the evening show. ALL I can say is OMG That was the best and most touching theater experience I've EVER had. I'll Remember it forever. The Cast & Audience were both AMAZING tonight. The cast was Right on. & The Audience clapped after every song. Totally F*CKED got a standing O for like 5 minutes.
Did anyone stick around late for stagedoor? Did Groff & Lea end up coming out? If so what time and did they sign stuff for the fans?
I waited like 20 minutes and had to leave.

I Wish them all the best of hope to see them again soon Back on Broadway.
I'm planning to go back to SA in July but IDK if I can bc Without Groff & Lea there It won't be the same show.

I want to say that Adamgreer wrote a fantastic review of the show tonight. He captures most of my thoughts, but boy what an incredible night. This is what makes Broadway a special place! I know SA is a show people seem to love or hate, but what made tonight so special was that every person in the theater seemed to love the show to death, most clearly having seen it before. Its pretty rare you see a standing ovation BEFORE the performance, but Lea certainly got one.

I caught the 2pm matinee(rushed-5 hours bc i was so scared i wouldn't get tickets) on saturday (only saw this because my friend needed to fill an extra seat he had), and both were incredible shows, but the emotions were really out there tonight. almost all of the creative team was there: Tom Hulce was in a box, as well as Michael Mayer, and Steven Slater were also present. My friend said she saw Duncan Sheik go backstage also.

I have never felt so much energy before in a theater. This has always been one of my favorite shows, but it was so nice to see the audience so into it and me not being the lone person. The standing ovation after totally ****ed was longer than the curtain bows on Saturday. It was absolutely incredible.

Lea really knocked it out of the park tonight as others said. She is an extremely talented actress who will do well in whatever she does. It was really touching to see her crying at so many moments during the show. Jonathan groff also turned in some of his best work ever.

A special note to Blake Bashoff and Emma Hunton who were absolutely incredible in their roles. This was the first time seeing the show without the entire original cast, and I had wondered if it could work for me without them. And for these roles, it the answer was yes. Bashoff almost surpassed Gallager with the amount of energy and emotion he brought. Huntons voice is also gorgeous, and really helped me get over the fact that Lauren Pritchard.

Overall, this is still probably my favorite show on broadway(I know I'm a terrible person, but god I love it), and is a show that I really could see every night(as demonstrated this weekend).

thanks for the review elhiesisperky and adamgreer. iwas last night too and it was incredible. people were starting to student rush at 7pm last night. best of luck tp both in the future. i wish all the bet to kyle as melichor on broadway and on tour and of course alexandra as wendla shes so sweet and shes nervous but excited at the same time. talked to her about last night for about 5 minutes at the stagdoor with her and jenna. jenna filled in alexandras seat last night too.
i am getting onstage ticket for a monday or august to see alexandra as wendla. elphie eryn's last name is murman.
i read the stagedoor was madness tonight too. lauren pritchard was there, jonathon b wright, john gallagher, gideon, i think jenn and krysta too. kyle and alexandra were standing next to each other. its so weird how they didnt offer matt d the full time role as melichor because him and alexandra almost always understudy together. i heard they are excellent and have wonderful chemistry together.

I tend to doubt Gideon was at the show or the stagedoor. Unless he figured out a way to time travel. Because I saw him in Speech and Debate in LA. At 4 pm.

But I can imagine the emotions running through that theatre.

thats what someone said about gideon from the fanclub message board and i thought the same thing danceqn. the former, present, and going to be cast members sat in different places in the theatre. they all stood up and went to the right orch aisle during curtain call. nope they didnt stagedoor they just went backstage right after everything.
met kyle last night at the stagedoor he was so sweet and so loveable. he loves taking photos.

wow....so i live right outside of spring awakening, and i don't know WHAt was going on after the show, but literally there were screams between 9:50 and 11:15!!! (not constant screaming- there were 10 minute periods of silence in between, of course)...but ive never heard anything like it! My roommates and i were going to go check it out (because i do like SA and i know tonight was a big deal to the major fans), but we figured it was MOBBED and there was no way we'd be able to see what was going on anyway.

were any of you there?? what was going on that was instigating blood-curdling screams for an hour and a half?? were the cast members outside for that long? speeches being made or anything?

While I didn't stage door after the evening show; the same thing happened at SD for the Matinee. The stage girls just screamed when the actors came out of the door. (Like they weren't expecting them?)

At matinee MANY of the cast did NOT stagedoor, they slipped out through the restaurant next to the theater.

FOAnatic, I am right there with you. Appreciation and well wishes are one thing, but crying??? Seriously, it's unhealthy. And yes, I have been to closings before and have not cried. Maybe because I'm in a place called "reality"...

I was down the street by that gym talking with a friend, and heard the screaming. Every cast member who walked out the door got that reaction.

I was at the stage door last night. The screams were caused by the cast members peiodically opening up the window 2 stories above the stage door to see the crowd and take there own pictures. Remy and Lilli threw out some pretzels but the biggest roar came from Lea and J. Groff showering the crowd with shaving cream! They were both very nice to every member of the huge crowd that waited over an hour to see them. My daughter finally took a picture with them at around 11:30 and there were still about 50 people in line behind her. They both showed great character by not rushing out of there even though the entire cast was waiting for them at the restaurant next door.

I was at the show last night as well. The other reviewers have said pretty much everything. Lea started crying after "Mama Who Bore Me (Reprise)" and I think I saw her tearing up at the beginning of "My Junk", but I'm not sure.

"Totally F****d" was absolutely incredible. People were cheering and screaming throughout the song, and the cast loved it. Especially Groff. The standing ovation for the song lasted for a good 2-3 minutes, and Lea was absolutely sobbing.

The standing ovation after the show was also incredible. Lea and Groff both gave short, but great, speeches at the end, thanking the fans, their families (who were in the audience), and the cast. Everyone was still clapping after they left the stage, and probably would have continued if the house lights didn't come up.

The stage door was complete madness. Thank you to the nice lady in front of me who passed my windowcard to the cast members to sign! I couldn't reach over the many people in front of me. I got to know so many strangers simply because we were all practically squished on top of each other. All of the cast members came out. Steven Sater, Michael Mayer and Tom Hulce also came out, along with Krysta Rodriguez, Robi Hager, Lauren Pritchard, and John Gallager Jr., who was in the street signing autographs. Jonathan and Lea came out last, somewhere around 11:15 and 11:30 (I lost track of time), and were both very gracious with signing and taking photos. And their arms were linked :)

Most of the screaming last night was because both Jon and Lea were sticking their heads out of the windows and shooting silly string at the fans in the street. It was pretty cute. The screams when the two of them came out were pretty calm, actually.

I'm sure I'll get some rude comments for this:

I was an absolute MESS when John Gallagher Jr. left, but it was partly because I never got a chance to see him. I mean, I LOST it. But now I'm very sad, but not a mess. I feel very fortunate I got to see both Lea and Jon TWICE, and I wish them the best of luck. I hope I will see them in other things soon. If anyone went, please post reviews!!!

Somebody, please tell me what "Those You've Known" was like. PM me. Seriously.

I can understand someone being upset a cast member is leaving their favorite show but...uncontrollable bawling? Please.

I was reading reviews on another site and you'd think someone was dying with the way people were acting.

"Those You've Known" really wasn't that bad. Just a lot of audible sobs, but no tears from the cast. "Totally "F-cked" was just a free for all. It was kind of funny to see Lea flipping off the audience while crying hysterically. The whole theatre was on its feet for that one, as it damn well should have been. The stagedoor was absolute chaos, but I loved every minute of it. Lauren Pritchard, John Gallagher, Krysta Rodriguez, and Robi Hager were there. Remy and Lilli were up at the window, and Remy started hurling pretzels into the crowd. There were people dangling from the scaffolding by St. Malachy's, it was so crazy. Most of them were gone by the time Lea and Groff came out, though, which is why the screams weren't that loud. But yeah, last night was THE most wondeful theatre experience I've ever had.

I wasn't ever a huge SA fan, but looking at those pictures while listening to Lea's curtain call speech on thesite sort of makes me wish I were.
