Best Play: August: Osage County is a shoo-in. Best Lead Actor: Mark Rylance over Patrick Stewart; people liked Mark's work more, and were more surprised by his performance Best Lead Actress: Deana Dunagan and Amy Morton might just split the vote, and S. Epatha will win; I'd like for Kate Fleetwood to win. I'm hoping for a four way tie! I'll predict Deana... Best Featured Actor: Raul Esparza, it will be "we're sorry for snubbing you last year, here is your consolation tony!" Conleth Hill & Jim Norton will split votes. Best Featured Actress: Mary McCormack, but I would be happy with any of these terrific actresses winning the award. Best Director: Anna D. Shapiro, but I secretly loved Maria Aitken's sly direction of The 39 Steps. Best Revival: Boeing-Boeing - well, I've got eat crow on this one; I honestly thought it was ridiculous that this show was being revived!! It's a delight! Best Scenic Design: Peter McKintosh for The 39 Steps - clever sets that add enormously to the fun! Best Costume Design: Katrina Lindsay for her period costumes of Les Liaisons; I'd vote for Peter McKintosh, though. Best Lighting Design: Kevin Adams for The 39 Steps - the design elements were SO entertaining, and added so much to the show! Best Sound Design: Mic Pool for The 39 Steps. 'Nuff Said!
Best Musical: Xanadu could win but I suppose it is more likely to go to In The Heights. If Passing Strange wins I will throw my t.v. set out the window! (I'm having my yearly Tony party so that will be a great ending to the evening!). My gut says that the voters who want a role in a tony winner will vote for Xanadu. Best Book: XANADU! Douglas Carter Beane! He SO deserves it! Best Score: In The Heights, please, Buddha, no, not Passing Strange! Yuck! Best Lead Actor: Daniel Evans will be the brit winner this year. Best Lead Actress: Patti Lu, of course! There is no contest! Best Featured Actor: Robin DeJesus over Boyd Gaines, simply because Gaines has won 3 allready and Robin was so much fun! Best Featured Actress: Laura Benanti is a lock, but I'd vote for Olga. Best Director: Arthur Laurents will be the surprise winner, I think he's 89? Bartlett Sher, otherwise. Best Choreography: Andy Blankenbuehler is a sure thing. Best Orchestrations: I hate it, but Stew & Heidi Rodewald will win a tony for this piece of garbage, one of the worst shows I've ever been subjected to in my life. I want In The Heights to win. Best Scenic Design: Sunday In The Park With George! AMAZING! Best Costume Design: David Farley for SITPWG. Best Lighting Design: It's between Ken Billington for SITPWG, and Donald Holder for SP - look for Donald to win. Best Sound Design: Scott Lehrer for SP, but I would choose Sebastian Frost for SITPWG.
Olga is very loved and held in high esteem by the theater community. i wouldn't be surprised if that love spills to the voters and she wins. But I agree with a lot of your list.

Best Musical: In the Heights Best Actor/Musical: Paolo Szot Best Actress/Musical: Patti LuPone Best Featured Actor/Musical: Danny Burstein Best Featured Actress/Musical: Laura Benanti Best Actress in a Play: A tie between Deanna Dunnagan and Amy Morton or Deanna will win on her own Best Actor in a Play: Patrick Stewart Best Featured Actress in a Play: Rondi Reed-She's really grown in her role and I think August will sweep Best Director/Musical: Arthur Laurents (Doesn't deserve it-Bartlett Sher does!) Best Director/Play: Anna Shapiro Best Book: Douglas Carter Beane, Xanadu Best Play: August: Osage County Best Featured Actor in a Play: Raul Esparza Best Revival of a Musical: South Pacific Best Revival of a Play: Boeing-Boeing Best Choreography: In the Heights (a tight race with Cry Baby though)
that's all I am really predicting right now
"A birdcage I plan to hang. I'll get to that someday. A birdcage for a bird who flew away...Around the world."
"Life is a cabaret old chum, only a cabaret old chum, and I love a cabaret!"-RIP Natasha Richardson-I was honored to have witnessed her performance as Sally Bowles.

buddharich, You have been spewing garbage out of your mouth for weeks now. I think everyone has gotten your point. That you don't like a certain show, ENOUGH ALREADY. I hope that you have to throw your TV out. The drama gods are watching, your just full of the dreaded H word.

Best Revival of a Musical: South Pacific-will and should win, this is an absolutely fabulous production! This has to win!
Best Lead Actor (Musical): Lin-Manuel Miranda, In the Heights-will and should win, although Paulo Szot keeps coming up
Best Lead Actress (Musical): Patti LuPone, Gypsy-will and should win
BEst Featured Actor (Musical): Robin de Jesus, In the Heights-will and should win, Boyd was good, but not good enough to win a fourth Tony award! He's no Audra! Haha.
Best Featured Actress (Musical): Olga Merediz, In the Heights-will and should win, Benanti is brilliance, but MIA! The theatre community loves Olga!
Best Score: Lin-Manuel Miranda, In the Heights-will and should win, sorry, but the score for Passing Strange, while innovative, is tacky...really, really tacky.
Best Book: Douglas Carter Beane, Xanadu-will and should win
Best Direction (Musical): Bartlett Sher, South Pacific-will win, I would think that Arthur Laurents should win, seeing as he has made an enjoyable revival of a show that was last revived 5 yrs ago!
Best Choreography: Andy Blankenbuehler, In the Heights-will and should win, sure the license plate tapping is exciting and different, but Ashford is more of the same. Blankenbuehler represents a new kind of Broadway choreography. Worked for Bill T. Jones last year.
Scenic Design: SitPwG, no contest-should and will win
Lighting Design: South Pacific-will and should win, spectacular lighting!
Costume Design: SitPwG-will win, although I fancy the upbeat creations of Paul Tazwell for In the Heights
ORchestrations: Stew, Heidi Rodewald, Passing Strange-I don't want to discuss it. Ugh.
Sound Design: Acme Sound Partners, In the Heights- should and will win, the Richard Rodgers comes to life every night with the music of Washington HEights thanks to Acme Sound Partners!
Best Lead Actress: Patti Lu, of course! There is no contest!
Best Lead Actress (Musical): Patti LuPone, Gypsy-will and should win
There is a contest look Lupone is up against O'Hara, Russell, Prince and Butler each giving stellar performances
the should win is O'Hara, while as of now and the will win is Lupone, but anything could happen come Tony night. Patti's winning is not guaranteed yet and the Tony is not hers to lose, O'Hara has more than a good shot of taking it from her. Go Kelli!!!

Is this a joke?
LuPone, as it has been noted by both the industry and the critics, is giving that career-defining, legendary, will be talked about for years kind of performance. The Tony IS hers to lose. Most assuredly so. Personally, I am hoping she takes it home. If Ms. O'Hara wins the award, it would be what we call an "upset." Updated On: 5/18/08 at 06:52 PM
