I'm heading up to LA tonight to see My Fair Lady. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about this production...I hear it's heading to Broadway after LA. I'm hoping for a great night of theater.

I saw it last night. Great night at the theatre--the show is absolutely ready for Broadway audiences. The sets and costumes are quite impressive for a touring show. Lisa O'Hare as Eliza was great, but I wasn't as impressed with the guy who played Higgins.

I hear it's practically sold out for the LA run and the line in the standby line was pretty long, so if you get a chance to see this, go.

Anyone know when it plans to transfer to New York?

I agree with you CB. I liked (not loved) the show. The sets and costumes were fantastic-very impressive! I loved the clever choreography, but was not impressed with the sound or the lighting-hard to understand and many actors were in shadows throughout the play. Loved the actress playing Eliza, but the actor playing Higgins was far too old (with no charm) for Eliza to fall in love with-it fact it kind of creeped me out thinking they were going to embrace or kiss at the end (they didn't). The end left me scratching my head-did they really love each other, and what in the world did Eliza see in him?!?
All in all-a fun night at the theater. I can't wait for A Chorus Line to get here! re: My Fair Lady in LA

I saw it when it was in Washington DC and enjoyed it. Lisa O'Hare was excellent as Eliza, and I thought Christopher Cazenove was fine as Higgins. The best part of the show was Tim Jerome as Alfie Doolittle. Just fantastic, and he was a real crowd pleaser the night I saw it.

I have tickets on the 16th. It got a mediocre review in the LA Times.

Kec-I agree...absolutely loved Tim Jerome! His "I'm Getting Married in the Morning" was one of my favorite parts of this show. Cazenove's Higgins was well sung-just not believable. His 'mother' (LOVED her also) looked like she should have been his wife or love interest-definitely not believable as 'Mommy' (and I can have a very suspended belief most of the time). O'Hare was simply adorable; Her and Jerome's performance made it worth my long drive and high ticket price.
YWIW-I hope you enjoy the show next week-I'll be anxious to hear what you think.

I saw the show in Miami.

It was a nice night of theatre, and Lisa O'Hare was brilliant, as were Walter Charles and Tim Jerome. I thought Christopher Cazenove was good, but he wasn't anything special.

I couldn't imagine this show transferring to Broadway. Sure, it's a nice production, but is it different from anything we've seen in the past few years? It's a nice production of a classic musical, but a Broadway transfer just seems unnecessary.

I've never seen a show that would benefit more from a leading actor losing 30 pounds than this one. Mr. Cazenove is, really, a very handsome man, but he's downright portly. If he were simply thinner, it would make the possibility of a romance between Higgins and Eliza MUCH more plausible. He needs to look ... "ready for action", if you get my meaning. As it is, it's quite hard to imagine the two of them together. Whatever you may think happens at the end of the play, a bit of sexual tension between the leading lady and man is always a good thing. As it is now, there's absolutely none, and that's this production's biggest (and only significant) problem.

I really loved this production. I thought the production values were amazing and the performances were really great. "With a Little Bit of Luck" and "Get Me to the Church on Time" were two of my favorite moments. Such fun musical numbers. :)

But yeah, I totally agree about the Eliza/Higgins thing. I was sitting there thinking that them being together would have been kind of weird. I honestly really wanted her to end up with Freddy...though I guess you don't know quite what happens at the end.

Anyway, I did think it was a great production, and I could see it dong well on Broadway.

I saw it in Chicago in January and it's a well done lively production--but there is no electricity between Henry and Eliza and the tiny "orchestra" (13/14) is way too small for this big show. "Get Me To The Church Ontime" was the highlight of the night for me.
