I know tickets for the Tonys aren't on sale yet, but I was wondering about how much they might cost. I've only been half aware that you can actually buy tickets, and now I'd really love to go. so if anyone has any info or has gone in the past and has fabulous stories, that'd be great!
thanks.
ETA: I just found out they go on sale the day the nominations are announced.

Two years ago I was looking into going and if I remember correctly the really crappy seats were going for 150. Which I dont think is too bad for The Tonys. I have always wanted to go... someday...

If you have been reading the lupone is not feeling well thread SahDu (second post on page one) is a friend of mine and I know he went to the tonys either last year or two years ago. So he would know if theres a dress code.

I would assume it's at least cocktail for just the regular guests. I doubt they'd require black tie of everyone, but I could be wrong.
$150 and $200 sound more like what I was anticipating for the really bad seats. and that really isn't awful for the Tonys.

When I went to see the TONY Awards show in 2005, the words "black tie, please" were printed on the ticket itself. Most people wear formal clothes, with ladies wearing fairly formal wear ( evening gowns). I don't know if that has changed more recently.
What I found different ( than just watching it on TV) was the great sense of community - people who were there probably all love the theatre and it didn't matter who was being announced as nominee or winner - everyone was cheering for all the actors!
When they go onsale, ticketmaster says that its a black tie event.
And, you most likely won't be sitting with any of the stars either. But, you will most likely be with other theatre lovers and from what I have been told, even if you go alone you won't feel it because your around other theatre lovers who just want to be there and are happy that they are.

If Alan Cumming could accept a Tony in a leather suit, how strictly should we take the black tie thing...
haha, that reminded me of the episode of Ugly Betty where Betty has to go review a hotel and her boyfriend shows up and wants to wear a t shirt to the hotel's restaurant. and he says that rock stars wear t shirts to awards shows all the time and she reminds him that he...is not a rock star.

the tickets they sale are for some of the mezzanine, balcony, and side box seats. the large Orchestra and less than half of the mezz is reserved for the actors and industry people.
I went in 2006. There was a dress code. I had to wear a tie and jacket. I was in the 1st Mezz. My ticket was a Birthday gift, but the person who went with me paid $200.00 for his ticket. And give yourself some time to get in and seated. We stood in line for about 1/2 an hour to get through security. And hang on to your ticket stub. It is the only way you get the official program.
We went the year The Producers won everything. We paid $250 a ticket, but I think there were cheaper seats available higher up. I wore a tux and my wife wore a gown. Some folks wore suits and cocktail dresses, but the majority went formal. It was an amazing experience.

it probably would. Although everyone I saw was in a suit. I flew in from Denver and went to the local Men's Warehouse and rented a tux. They sent my size infor to a Manhatten store. Picked it up when I got to NYC. Didn't cost much and it was worth it. We would have felt a bit out of place with everyone around us in suits and gowns. And I returned it to the Manhattan store so it worked out not having to travel with it.
I would strongly recommend renting a tux. A really good suit might be OK, but in "a decent pair of pants, a jacket or blazer and a decent shirt and tie" you'll probably seem underdressed.

I agree with madbrian. And it was really fun being really dressed up for the night. Especially when you walk out. You get to go out of the same doors in the lobby as everyone downstairs. You really feel a part of things when you are side by side with actors, etc. walking out. Go for a tux. You won't regret it. My best friend was with me and he said to me that he is so glad we rented the tuxes so we wouldn't look out of place.
