I love that the answer is basically "three unknown character actors."

God bless 'em!

Ah, Bess Flowers. Who can forget her immortal line:

"I'm so happy for you, Eve!"

re: Actors who have been in the most 'Best Picture' Academy Award Winning F
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

You knew it had to go back to the studio contract days. Some of those character actors would work in a different film every few weeks. They had to have the top counts.

WOW! Thanks for looking that up! I didn't know wikipedia would have it

Also, Sofia Coppola was in the first two Godfathers? I'm assuming as a baby or something.

Okay, now THIS is amazing!

John Cazale
The Godfather (1972), The Godfather Part II (1974), The Deer Hunter (1978 )
Note: Before his death in 1978, John Cazale appeared in only five feature films, all of which were nominated for Best Picture. In addition to the three films listed above, he also appeared in The Conversation (1974) and Dog Day Afternoon (1975).

And then his article mentions that he was in Godfather Part III using stock footage, so he was in six films for his entire career, all of which were nominated for Best Picture. A 100% success rate! That's so awesome.

Had Cazale lived it would have been interesting to see what kind of acting couple he and Meryl Streep would have made.

Even when I was a child, I always watched old movies and paid more attention to character actors and contract players than stars. You gotta love the likes of Eugene Pallette, Roscoe Karns and Ned Sparks.

Love 'em all! And Guy Kibbee, Henry Travers, Beulah Bondi, so many others...

I also saw a while back that from the AFI top 100 film of all-time, Ward Bond (yay, Ward!) had appeared in more of their chosen films than any other actor. Something like eight.

Only six actors have been in films that won in three different decades:

Jack Nicholson
Shirley MacLaine
Dustin Hoffman
Bernard Hill
Morgan Freeman
Franklyn Farnum

If Hoffman or MacClaine is in an Oscar-winner this decade, they'll have spanned 4 decades (a record).

And there's the great John Cazale, who appeared in five films before his untimely death, all of which were Best Picture nominees and three of which were winners.

What a loss. One of the finest actors in films.

Oh, I hadn't noticed that somebody posted on Cazale, and actually got the facts right.

Cazale still rocks, though.
