I was given a copy of the Into The Woods Demo the other day and was wondering if anyone knows if the cast was the same as the OBC?
It seems from listening to a couple of the songs "It Will Be Alright" and "How Do You Say" that it might have been darker in the family tones than what the show ended up being.
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.

"In the U.S.A.
You can have your say,
You can set you goals
And seize the day,
You've been given the freedom
To work your way
To the head of the line-
To the head of the line!"

But is it possible for someone to answer my first question?

Bernadette was in the demo? I know Ellen Foley was the Witch in the pre-Broadway engagement. Wasn't Betty Buckley attached to this project right before Bernadette's last-minute addition as the Witch? Too hard to work with or something? I guess it makes sense that BP was on the demo.
Rosscoe, are you positive it's Peters on the demo? I'm only asking because the demo tracks that are in the re-release of the cast recording it is Maureen Moore singing the role of the Witch. Also, as someone said, Foley played the role in the pre-Broadway engagement and Peters only came into the project because they were close to going into rehearsals on Broadway and didn't have anyone to play the Witch.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
a "demo" is a rough recording of the score made early in the development process. Some are more professional than others, but they're not for public distribution.
tazber- Not 100% true. Some composers leak them out for die hard fans, or to try and drum up business. In "Navigate This Maze" Damon Who'slastnameIcan'tspell says he regrets letting it get out because the score for bare has changed and improved so much.
you're absolutely correct husk. It was kind of a broad definition. They are also used to entice potential backers. That may be what the leaking you're talking about though.
I think what Tazber meant is that they are not on sale to the general public or typically found at a records store.

"Bernadette is only on one track, with the "rap" Otherwise it's Maureen Moore doing a scary close impression of Bernadette."
Wow that is one very scary Peters impression, i would never have guessed and must admit i am ashamed to ask but who is Maureen Moore?
Must say iam loving "It Will Be Alright" and "How Do You Say".

Rosscoe, that's an understandable mistake. As far as I can remember, Moore has understudied Peters in two of the bigger roles in her career (perhaps her two most important roles): Emma in SONG & DANCE, and Momma Rose in GYPSY.

SONG & DANCE earned huge raves for Bernadette Peters and it also earned her her first Tony award (and I have heard from my older friends that that is one of the best musical theater performances they have seen). It did not recoup its investment though. I assume it had more to do with Act II than with Act I, though perhaps the thought of going on Broadway to see a one-person show in Act I did not appeal people too much either.

I remember Margo talking about Song and Dance and he said that Peters was Incredible and gave a tour de force performance.
Reading the list of people that Moore has replaced, maybe it's time for her to open a show and get her chance to shine.
