I'm definitely requesting the DVD for my birthday present this year.
"I am and always will be the optimist. The hoper of far-flung hopes and dreamer of improbable dreams." - Doctor Who
"Yes, the brutalities of progress are called revolutions. When they are over, men recognize that the human race has been harshly treated but it has moved forward." - Les Miserables
I don't know about 'getting it sooner' considering that (as noted on their website), the COMPANY DVD will become available for shipment on Monday, March the 17th. I don't see many interruptions for COMPANY. Intermission? Surely, but that's only the real logical place to implement 'the usual jargon'.
I know PBS aired a performance of "contact" years ago. Does anyone know if that is also available on DVD??
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
"Tivoing the HD telecast. Burning that onto DVD-RW to hold me over (RW is erasable, which is what'll I'll do eventually). Queuing the standard DVD release on Netflix. Burning that when I get it. Waiting for the Blu-ray version to be released (which it is), then buying that version and keeping the burnt copy of the standard DVD version to watch on a non-Blu-ray disc player."
Too bad this is an anonymous board. I'd have you arrested for your blatant violation of the copyright law.
CONTACT was part of LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER. Though that series is a part of PBS' programming, PBS does not own the rights to any of the broadcasts -- they only have the rights to air the shows a couple of times only. This is why their broadcasts of THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, PASSION IN CONCERT nor TWELTH NIGHT will ever be released on homevideo/DVD.
Shows that air on PBS' GREAT PERFORMANCES series are all privately funded and filmed (PBS does not film those), therefore are eventually released on DVD (such as those Sondheim shows, FOSSE, SOUTH PACIFIC IN CONCERT, CANDIDE IN CONCERT, CATS, etc.) because PBS negotiates for distribution rights.
I can't seem to find a listing for it on Amazon.com.
Butters, go buy World of Warcraft, install it on your computer, and join the online sensation before we all murder you.

ATTENTION FANS: I will be played by James Barbour in the upcoming musical, "BroadwayWorld: The Musical."
Oh, no, really? They changed the date? I was about to order one yesterday, but my mom was searching for her membership info, so she asked me if I could wait a day. Sigh.
Yup. Just received a confirmation from PBS that the release date is indeed May 20, 2008. The March 17, 2008 release date they originally stated (and which emailed confirmations also reiterated) was a pending release date prior to the actual broadcast and which was never actually confirmed.
The May 20, 2008 release date is now effective for ALL orders: pre-orders via the PBS Store AND regular DVD outlets (Amazon, DVD Empire, Deep Discount DVD, etc).
*mopes* When is Amazon going to have it listed, do you think? I've got a ton of gift certificates stacked up there, waiting to be spent on a worthy offering.
Hm. When my mom ordered over the phone she was told March 14th it would be shipped. So I am supposing this could be different from the release dates?
Perhaps not.

Yeah, no way I'm spending that much money on this (especially since I didn't care much for either the production or the broadcast). It's been recorded on DVR, boyfriend will put it on a DVD, and that'll do :)
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
I called the number from the end of the broadcast after hearing the news about the may 20th date. The guy told me that everyone who ordered it from WNET (the address/phone number from the broadcast or the shopthirteen website) will recieve it around March 10th. I was really happy! So I checked the website and it has been changed to reflect the March 10th date. I'm sooo glad the wait won't be that long!
Hmm, so if I order it from them today, will I get it March 10th, or does that only apply to people who ordered it before the change went into effect?
I guess I'll give them a call and see what's up. I'm going to order it from them regardless because I want to give a donation, but I'd love to have it sooner.
