I'm an English (writing concentration)/Comm dual major, and I'm most interested in the casting & dramaturgy aspects of theater. I've already gotten a list together of about 70 theaters (mostly from the offbroadwayonline.com listing) and I've also looked through the Playbill listings. I'm assuming that any and all NYC theater internships are highly competitive, and I want to make sure that I've taken advantage of every opportunity out there.
Basically I'm just looking for some advice, tips on what to include in cover letters & resumes and such. My experience in the theater industry is rather limited and I'm sure that's going to hinder my chances quite a bit, but I'll never know unless I try...
Oh yeah, I've also searched the student boards for internships and found a few to add to my list, but these types of threads tend to be a little scarce so I'm hoping for better results here. Thanks for all your help!

If you want an interesting internship/job, (Although, not in NYC) look into New York Stage and Film (http://www.newyorkstageandfilm.org) I know they have interns specifically in the literary department, and as they deal with only new plays it might be more interesting for you. Their summer season is up in Poughkeepsie NY, which is a short train ride from NYC, and they have long relationships with many neat playwrights (John Patrick Shanley, Rachel Shienkin, and more!).
The one show everyone on Broadway is waiting to see: Twyla Tharp presents: Big Bottom - The Spinal Tap Jukebox musical!
New York Stage and Film is pretty good. But that is more for acting, directing, playwriting.
The Shakespeare Theatre of NJ has internships for casting and dramaturgy. And they are fantastic!

Thank you both for your responses, I will definitely look into them!

And I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not any of the actual Broadway theaters had internship programs? I looked and didn't really find any.

Besides non-profits like the Roundabout? No. However, a lot of the company managers do. You should pick up a Theatrical Index it will give you all the info of who does what for each show.
Thanks for the tip! That looks like it would be really helpful even in the world outside of internship stalking.

I started interning during the summer after my freshman year of college (19 yrs old). But I did the New York Stage and Film summer program when I was upcoming junior in high school (16 yrs. old)
where can I get the Theatrical Index? Cause I would love to try and get an internship at a Broadway theatre.

Thanks for the Theatrical Index tip. I'm also in the process of applying for a bunch of internships for this summer.
While this topic's up, does anyone have any suggestions for something that's paid. (Most of the one's I've found (or most well known) are full time, and right now I'm looking for something more PT.) Thanks!

People usually get internships when they're in college. My first one was after my sophomore year in college (last summer) and I was 20. It usually helps to have a couple under your belt before graduating. I'm looking for some theatre-related internship in PR/advertising/marketing, so if anyone can help me out...I also need a paid internship!
