What do dancers wear UNDERneath?

I've always wondered this... mostly because I'm just a curious kind of guy. What do most male dancers wear under their costumes these days on Broadway? Do they really wear those 'dance belts?' Can you wear whatever you want to wear, as long as you're comfortable? It's just funny for me to picture some really masculine guy or stunt caster like Ashley Parker Angel wearing a dance belt. Just curious.

Well, only DANCERS need to wear dancebelts. That's why you wouldn't see a stunt-cast person wearing one- they're not in the dancing ensemble. I'm by no means even close to being a dancer, but I bought one for an audition to seem more professional and could barely walk in it. I give HUGE props to the guys who put up with it.

I think it's obvious Clay Aiken doesn't wear a dance belt.

Well...I think everyone in the cast wears a dance belt. It makes it easier to complete a quick change without have, let's say boxers, in the way.

They're not as uncomfortable as they sound. I have to wear one almost everyday (I go to the Hartt School as an MT major) because of ballet classes and I have to keep it on throughout the entire day cause I don't have time to take it off. It's not all that uncomfortable, you get used to it, especially after wearing it so much.

Now there is a difference between the thong and the full bottom. I own one of each but usually wear only the full bottom. The thong dance belt is a bit more uncomfortable but it takes getting used to.

I'm sure some characters don't have to worry about quick changes so they can wear whatever they want! But it's safe to assume the dancing ensemble wears them!

I am a dancer, and personally for me, if I am in a drama or very low-octane musical, I do not wear a dance belt. For me, when I put it on, I go into dancer mode, and become really sucked in and pulled up. Too much for a play.
A majority of the chorus on Broadway will wear dance belts, and probably the more physical leads as well. There are some full bottomed ones of the whimpy men

Probably not too needed for this question, but often times in dance company performances, women don't wear anything. Costumes often times become too complicated to worry about under-things.

I saw some of the male ensemble of Legally Blonde wearing dance belts (they were changing by the wings.)
