We've lost a very poetic musician.

Wow. So young - how sad. Another Auld Lang Syne is one of my all time favorite songs.

RIP.

I'll admit it. "Another Auld Lang Syne" always gets to me.

I have many of his albums, and I loved his music. Nether Lands will always be one of my favorites. So sad... A talented, beautiful man. He will be missed.

Wow- what a shock. He's from suburban chicago and his dad was a band teacher- the song 'leader of the band' was about him.

Actually, it was Pekin, Illinois - just outside Peoria.

Until the 1960's the sports teams at Pekin High School were the "Pekin Chinks" - until political correctness lead them to change to the Pekin Dragons.

Such a loss. re: RIP Dan Fogelberg

I knew he was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer a few years ago, but hadn't heard anything more. I assumed he was doing well. I'm shocked and saddened. I will miss the man and his music. RIP sir.

This makes me very sad. Another part of my past gone - not to mention the loss to the world (and obviously, his friends and family.)

Thank you so much for that link.

I listened to the montage of his songs and I am not afraid to say that I cried. His music has always touched me.

"Same Old Lang Syne" and "Longer" always bring me to tears.

He'll be missed.

I said the years had been a friend to her
And that her eyes were still as blue
But in those eyes I wasn't sure if I saw
Doubt or gratitude.

She said she saw me in the record stores
And that I must be doing well
I said the audience was heavenly
But the traveling was hell.

Just for a moment I was back at school
And felt that old familiar pain
And as I turned to make my way back home
The snow turned into rain --

From my favorite Fogelberg tune - "Part of the Plan":

'I have these moments
All steady and strong
I'm feeling so holy and humble
The next thing I know
I'm all worried and weak
And I feel myself
Starting to crumble.

The meanings get lost
And the teachings get tossed
And you don't know what you're
Going to do next.
You wait for the sun
But it never quite comes
Some kind of message comes
Through to you.
Some kind of message comes through.

And it says to you...

Love when you can
Cry when you have to...
Be who you must
That's a part of the plan
Await your arrival
With simple survival
And one day we'll all understand...'

Leader of the Band is one of my favorites. Very touching tribute to his father and showed what kind of son Dan was. R.I.P. Your beautiful music will live on and touch so many.

Such poetry. Such magnificent music. Thank you for your gifts. Rest in Peace.

High on this mountain
The clouds down below
I'm feeling so strong and alive
From this rocky perch
I'll continue to search
For the wind
And the snow
And the sky
I want a lover
I want some friends
And I want to live in the sun
And I want to do all the things that I
never have done.

Sunny bright mornings
And pale moonlit nights
Keep me from feeling alone
Now, I'm learning to fly
And this freedom is like
Nothing that I've ever known
I've seen the bottom
And I've been on top
But mostly I've lived in between
And where do you go
When you get to the end of
your dream?

Off in the nether lands
I heard a sound
Like the beating of heavenly wings
And deep in my brain
I can hear a refrain
Of my soul as she rises and sings
Anthems to glory and
Anthems to love and
Hymns filled with early delight
Like the songs that the darkness
Composes to worship the light.

Once in a vision
I came on some woods
And stood at a fork in the road
My choices were clear
Yet I froze with the fear
Of not knowing which way to go
One road was simple
Acceptance of life
The other road offered sweet peace
When I made my decision
My vision became my release.

So sad. Dan Fogelberg is one of my favorite singer/songwriters. Same Old Lang Syne and Leader of the Band, with their beautiful lyrics, always make me weepy. May he rest in peace.

I saw him in concert several times and I always enjoyed his humbleness and sense of humor, along with his poetically beautiful music. The world has lost a wonderful musician. May you rest in peace, Dan.
