Talk to BrodyFosse123. He lives for it.

Poor fella. It's all he has.

Oh, and Betty, I think you're pretty. All you need to do is take off that wig, remove the glasses, and pull out those fake teeth. In addition to feeling a lot more comfortable, you'll look great too!

I think one of the problems is that DVD collectors (myself included) are generally "completists."

They have to have ALL of something.

You can't just buy Season 2 of a show, because it has your favorite episode, or favorite guest star in it, etc.

You have to own ALL SEVEN SEASONS of the show.

That's how the getcha. They appeal to the completist in all of us, and it pays off for the studios big-time.

TV shows on DVD is the most popular and lucrative of all genres. That's why you see so many of them being released.

It's true. I have the same problem. I bought one season of the Bob newhart show and now I have all of them and am writing emails to get season 5 and 6 released. Im still waiting for the next season of Mary Tyler Moore and waiting for Rhoda and Phyllis to be released, not to mention The Betty White Show and Lou Grant.

Totally right, b12b, which especially sucks for those of us who like shows that ran for-freaking-ever, like Frasier. I'm missing two seasons and it's driving me crazy.

Count me in. And I'm definitely a completist, too. Even if I don't plan on watching the entire series anytime soon, I still have to have it. Case-in-point, I made my husband buy me the Complete Brady Bunch for my birthday in May and still haven't made it through the first season. Of course, in the meantime, I've watched Seasons 1-5 of M*A*S*H and Seasons 1-7 of Friends, in addition to a smattering of new stuff that has come out in the past couple of months. Come to think of it, I don't watch a whole lot of regular TV anymore because I own all my favorites on DVD.

Let's see, I've got all of Arrested Development, all of Scrubs (or at least the seasons that have been released), seasons 1 and 2 of Friends, all seasons of Frasier except I believe 5 and the second to last one, all of the released seasons of The Office, all of the released seasons of CSI and CSI:NY, all of the released seasons of House...yeah, I think that's it.

Wow.

Foster, if you think Betty's bad, you should see the guy playing her love interest. They threw glasses on him to make him plain and nerdy, but he's really all built and chiseled and fine. The show is a big old bag of mixed messages, and this is coming from someone who loves it and finds it hilarious.

I don't have too many shows I own season by season - just Friends, Sex and the City, AbFab. I'm anxiously awaiting the release of the Facts of Life - season four.

Mauriposa, which seasons of Boy Meets World have been released now? I always waned to buy the later seasons--the first few, up until about their senior year of high school, sucked in my opinion--but they only seem to have the first few.

Yes, I'm totally one of those completists. The thing that makes me most mad is when they cancel a show without finishing the story. Its always funny when a show ends one or two seasons in.
Its so god damn satisfying to own it and watch it all....

So far, I've been collecting everything thats been released for:
Hereoes
Ugly Betty
Desperate Housewives
LOST
Greys Anatomy
Dexter
Studio 60
Commander in Cheif
Six Feet Under
Dexter
Project Runway
Will and Grace
Punky Brewster
Queer as Folk
Sex and the City
Golden Girls
Brothers and Sisters
Sliders (hangs head in shame)

I'm obsessed wth DVDs there are so many shows I want, but don't have yet like Full House, Oz, Sports Night, Roseanne, Married With Children, Saved by the Bell etc etc etc

This doesnt include the 400 other movies I own on DVD. My roommates tell me that I'm like a walking blockbuster.

I was just working on the 'passing angels' thread for December and Walt Disney was one of the names on the list. I have a tendency to let my mind wander when I work on these so when I saw Walt's name, I thought about my favorite Disney player, Tommy Kirk, and the awful way Walt treated him when he found out Tommy was gay. This resulted in my looking Tommy up and discovering that he has been participating in a lot of special Disney ceremonies and awards. I thought this was interesting and then I saw this description for one of the 'extras' on the "Hardy Boys" DVD's -

"Bonus Feature: The Hardy Boys Unmasked.
Leonard Maltin interviews Tim Considine and Tommy Kirk about their experience filming the Hardy Boys. Tommy gives Leonard a worse time than Harry Carry Jr did on the Spin and Marty DVD; by the end, Leonard is plainly grimacing and longing for the fadeout."

Now I'm REALLY curious. Does anyone have these DVD's and can tell me just what they mean by this?

***Threadjack***

"Foster, if you think Betty's bad, you should see the guy playing her love interest. They threw glasses on him to make him plain and nerdy, but he's really all built and chiseled and fine."

I am so sad that character actors aren't used anymore. Where are todays Don Knotts and Nancy Walker and Thema Ritter and Mary Wickes? They just slap a pair of glasses and stupid wig on a beautiful person and call it good enough.

***We now return to the regularly scheduled thread***

It's the only way I've ever watched 24. I can't imagine watching that on network television. Otherwise, the only other television shows I have on DVD, are Murder She Wrote, because I never tire of Angela Lansbury, and shows that you generally don't see on basic cable, anymore (Rawhide, Combat, Hazel, Rat Patrol, The Untouchables, That Girl, Rawhide, etc.)

I am afraid to start buying TV shows on DVD, but the ones I have watched so far are:

Wonder Falls
Dead Like me
Noah's Arc
Dante's Cove (A guilty pleasure)
Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In

The Lair is next on the list. And if I do start buying them, the first series I will most likely buy is Meerkat Manor.
