"Hello, Bluebird," from the February 1963 special with Robert Goulet and Phil Silvers, a few months before the TV series started taping.

For those of you who have never seen this song, which she first sang in the movie "I Could Go on Singing," hold your hats. It's a slow build-up to an explosive finish.

Yes--they did some very artsy camera work on Judy's TV shows.

Here's a "Man That Got Away" from the 1962 Judy Frank and Dean special.

Look at the dizzying opening boom shot.

Oh--and she sings the HELL out the number.

These two clips aren't actually from the series. They're from the two specials she did leading up to the series.

They have some great treasures on them, including this amazing Judy Frank and Dean "You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You."

We call that special "Judy, Frank & Beans"--the final series of Judy solos is the closest we'll ever come to seeing that Judy was like at Carnegie Hall the year before.

I think her best version is on the TV show where she talks about losing the Oscar [but winning a son] and in a white outfit sings a subtler, more introspective version of the song. This along with effective lighting shows the brilliance of her singing and acting talent.
Do you know what happens when you let Veal Prince Orloff sit in an oven too long?

"By Myself" from that Phil Silvers/Robert Goulet special.

Flawless.

For those of you who are new to Judy, this is the classic Judy "slow-boil" approach to a song. You have to stick with it till the end for the fireworks. It is not for the short-attention-spanned.
