I saw it in Philly last night, same thing, clapping after many of the songs. OK it was at a Gay Film Festival, so they loved it. Everyone loved the John Waters part too.

they loved it at lincoln square. Not any clapping during the movie, but a hearty round of applause at the end. Lots of laughs. I felt like i was the only one that got the John Waters cameo as not many people laughed there. But yeah, everyone loved it. Me included.

John travolta was shockingly good.

Since it wasn't a late viewing and a huge street fair going on, there weren't a ton of people there. The biggest reaction came from the line that mentioned Schenectady... since that's where I am!

Liverpool, which showing were you at? I was there today too. I also thought Travolta was really good. I totally bought it.

Saw it at an Island 16 on Long Island. Packed theatre (Director's Hall), tons of laughter, cheers and applause throughout the whole thing (nothing obnoxious). A lot of chatter before and after the showing about Nikki Blonksy. Everybody was proud that she was from Long Island, only eighteen and kicked some major movie musical butt.

I did, however, have to resist the urge to smack the woman who dressed up as Tracy for her birthday and brought along about 15 people who refused to sit down and shut up during the previews and the start of the movie. The birthday "girl" would occasionally wave her Ultra-Clutch can and Zac Efron (as Link) framed photo around. And she was NOT young. I don't have a problem with someone dressing up, but when that someone becomes distracting...I might get a tad bit violent.

Lots of applause tonight here in NJ. Big applause with Tracy's "I would make every day negro day!!!" when she gets the show and after "I know where I been" and of course for "You can't stop the beat". Timeless and Welcome to the 60's got applause as well. Everyone started singing along when "Mama Im a big girl now" played over the credits.

I was happy to be surrounded by people with I love Link buttons, Hairspray shirts and sweatshirts. There was even someone with an Ultra Clutch can!

Here in New Hampshire, there were only about FIFTEEN people at the 10:00 showing. Everyone laughed on all Penny's, Edna's, Prudy's, and Motormouth's lines.

Full theatre in Tampa. Crowd was going absolutely nuts. Biggest applause was after "I Know Where I've Been" and anytime Allison Janney said anything, the crowd went balistic. Amazing experience.

On a side note, my friend who was seeing Chuck & Larry said that theatre was only about half full, so Tampa is a Hairspray town!

I just got back from a 10:20 in NJ. The theater was maybe a third filled (I think everyone was all on line for Harry Potter). No one clapped after anything and there wasn't much laughing, most of it was for any on Edna's lines or parts with Seaweed and Penny. Maybe it was just a bad crowd because it was late, but I'm not sure.

Just came back from my evening out.

I saw it in Rancho Mirage California.

It was a 5PM showing- to a fairly small audience- may be about 100 people, sadly.

They were terribly responsive until about Welcome to the Sixties on.

The audience seemed to really enjoy it though.

My parents loved it! They have heard me talk about Hairspray 20 X a day for the past 500 days. So I was suprised they liked it so much. :)

Almost full house in Minneapolis. Crowd seemed to really enjoy it...lots of laughter, particularly at Janney's "Demon Child" line, Penny's "I'm very pleased and scared to be here," and Edna's Proud Mary moment in YCSTB. Outright applause at the end of "I Know Where I've Been" and as the final credits started to roll (huge applause when Travolta's name appeared on screen).

Loved it as much the second time, although my friends didn't like Travolta or Bynes.

My audience (in Jersey) didn't do their research, because there was audible shock at the mention of "nice white kids" and the once-a-month Negro Day.

"I Know Where I've Been" got a round of applause.

The theatre I went was VERY depressing! Nobody was cheering! I think there were 10 people in the this 200 seat movie theatre! It seemed like my brother and I were the most excited to see the film!

It was early too (at 12.45pm) and it was at movie theatre in the suburbs of Toronto . It doesnt seem like people here where I live are into musicals as much as people living downtown toronto. I am going to see the movie again and next time it will be downtown!

At my theatre there weren't a lot of people, but they REALLY enjoyed it. They laughed in all the right spots and whooped and applauded when Edna took the dance floor during "You Can't Stop the Beat". I cried. I loved it.

I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. I wish my theatre was like all of yours'. The theatre is brand new, opened about a week ago (Cinemagic IMAX) and the Hairspray screen had about 80 seats (TINY!) and it seemed like everyone was flocking to HP and C&L. re: Hairspray Reaction @ Your Theatre

What sucked about my screening was that half way through "Come So Far" - it's as if someone flipped on a switch and the rest of the speakers came on.

So we were listening to about 60% of the full sound the entire movie.

That blew- but I'll be seeing it plenty of more times.

I stayed for the full credits (WATCH THE CREDITS!) I loved what they did with them. My friends and I danced around the theatre and sang along during the credits.

The theater here was PACKED! There wasn't any cherring or clapping or anything, but there was a lot of laughter and it seemed like the majority of the crowd enjoyed themselves. re: Hairspray Reaction @ Your Theatre
