I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
I'm going to be in the city July 9th through the 14th and am most certainly not missing this. My only commitment so far is "110 in the Shade" on the 12th (the night this will open,) but I am willing to move anything and everything to schedule "Gypsy" in.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
I just went to their website, and it says nothing about it. Those tickets are going to sell like wildfire.

I really hope it's this summer, because if it is, I am so there!

"Tony and Olivier Award winner Patti LuPone, who triumphed in last summer's Ravinia Festival production of Gypsy, will get the chance to perform her Rose for New York audiences this summer."

Awww, I was hoping ANDREA MCARDLE would be playing Rose.
"I'm tellin' you, the only times I really feel the presence of God are when I'm having sex and during a great Broadway musical." - Nathan Lane - Jeffrey
"We don't value the lily less for not being made of flint and built to last. Life's bounty is in it's flow, later is too late. Where is the song when it's been sung, the dance when it's been danced? It's only we humans who want to own the future too."

"Laurents, who wrote the book for what is considered one of the finest American musicals, will direct the production"
So does that mean Laurents is no longer holding his grudge against LuPone...since he is directing her? I'd love to be in that rehearsal room.
"Chicago is it's own incredible theater town right there smack down in the middle of the heartland. What a great city! I can see why Oprah likes to live there!" - Dee Hoty :-D
I wonder who will round out the cast? Does the Encores Summer Series do the same amount of performances as the Great American? Just the four or five, or whatever?
Laurents probably forgot his grudge when he saw the raves LuPone got at Ravinia.

Would commercial producers really consider mounting this on Broadway?
