Wouldn't the London closing make the Broadway transfer even easier? I imagine they can now just use all the sets, costumes, and props from the West End.
As far as I know (although I haven't spoken to anyone since news of the closing,) it's coming over in the fall with Elena Roger.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
It was a big, heavy, expensive production: and frankly, not a very good one - with the exception, of course of the fabulous Elena Roger. The good news is that if they still want to open the show in NYC in the fall, they now won't have to build a new set!
Even though Webber is clearly British, I think that in many instances EVITA is more "American" than his other shows. I think that it could have greater success over here.

I have to say I wasnt very impressed with the show, but the Eva I saw Jodie Jacobs was amazing. I really hope I can watch it again w/ Elena before it closes... fat chance though. Anyway, I was hoping Cabaret to close sooner! Oh well... I hope Adelphi will have Hairspray alas!... not Joseph -_-"

I don't think they can just travel with the OLC, I remember they wanted to transfer Bombay Dreams with the OLC and they just could bring the actress that played Rani, because she had a Green Card. With WIW they just brought 2 stars of the show, not the entire cast.

It's a dubious prospect for success on B'way. It was once a show-is-the-star kind of piece, but I doubt that's true now. I don't think people will plunk down a 100 bucks to see an unknown from Argentina, not in today's climate. It would require Jennifer Lopez or her peer to pack 'em in.

That's a pity. I just saw it, 3 understudies were in much to my dismay, for Eva, Che and the Mistress. I'm seeing it again soon.
I really enjoyed it when I saw it, the understudies were the weak point in my opinion but the rest of the show was great. Go see it in London while you have the chance!
Aguilera could sing it on stage. And I think she'd probably be terrific.
I don't believe SUNDAY is going to have its whole original cast in tact. From what I've heard, only the two leads are being sought...and even that will require an actor exchange with Equity.
A strong argument could be made for Elena Roger. Doubtful for the rest of that cast.
"I'm so looking forward to a time when all the Reagan Democrats are dead."
I had a chance to see it in London last week but decided to use my ticket for stalls for a second look at Equus; it was so crazy in the West End on a Saturday night and I didn't want to lose $100, then have to pay another $60 for the Evita ticket. I do hope see an official production someday (having grown up with the Premiere American Recording). TTYTT, I'm very predisposed to Patti Lupone, which is the style that I would go into the production expecting, and which is so unfair to the other great singers who have played and will play the role. I do hope it transfers to Broadway so I can finally see it, and will keep an open mind to the newer artists!
Except JLo - my mind is made up about her so-called talent. Madonna could pull it off for the film but not her. I don't think she even has a range (ore knows what one is). How low would the orchestrations, and the standards, have to be lowered for that? Maybe an ensemble dancer but keep her mouth shut.
"My how the worm begins to turn/when will the chorus girl EVER learn?!"
I saw the show last Saturday and I was told that the principals' contracts were terminating as of April 14, but that "some of them" would be extending. Perhaps the loss of Elena Roger, which was pretty much certain, played a part in the decision.
