Kenita Miller will take over the role of Celie in Color Purple stsarting February 20. Jeanette Bayardelle will head the touring company of the show. Updated On: 2/16/07 at 08:17 AM
I thought Kenita was going to open the Chicago production.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
-John Guare, Landscape of the Body
I supposed that LaChanze would have come back to the show and that she would be the fill-in before Fantasia started as she mentioned in an interview she would make a brief return.
Wow i'm so glad I got to see Jeanette before this change took place. I had never even heard of her before I saw the show but I left believing she gave absolutely one of the most powerful performances I have ever seen. Broadway is letting go of an amazing performer!
Luckydave- LaChanze was set to return, but due to a change of dates for the gap between Janette and Fantasia, she was forced to pull out due to a scheduling conflict (at least that's what I was told.)
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
alright, this is the third person taking the part of celie that i have heard within the past 12 hours. first it was fantastia, then vanessa, and now kenita.
glad there is proof with this one. where were the other people getting their sources from i wonder?
with that said. WAHOO for miller! =)
hear my song; it was made for the time when you don't know where to go, listen to the song that i sing, you'll be fine..
