I happened to see Wicked tonight for the first time since January (I won't bore anyone with a long review. Sufficient to say the cast was great, the audience exceptionally responsive, and the ensemble looking thankfully more alive and into it) and I noticed in the playbill that Anthony Galde is now an understudy for Fiyero. For those who do not know him, he makes one heck of a Wizard. So why has the understudy for the Wizard now been bumped up to also be the understudy of Fiyero? Anthony certainly looks way too old for the part. Has he ever gone on as Fiyero?
He covers Boq too? I remember Anthony Galde being rather tall (I had him as the Witch's Father). That would look odd.
As for Fiyero, I wonder if he is just an "emergency" understudy. Anytime I've heard of Fiyero being out, Jerad Bortz has gone on (who looks the part a lot more than Galde does). I also just noticed that Clifton Oliver, who played Simba on Broadway, has joined the cast. He's also listed as an understudy for Fiyero. I would imagine either of those two would go on first (because they're more the "type" for Fiyero).
Actually, have you seen him in person lately? He must have gotten thinner, cause his face looks younger. Also, his hair is blonde now which somehow makes him look younger than before.
Yes, I agree. He looks very young now (short blonde hair, great shape!) and could easily make me believe him as Fiyero. He's not tall though, as someone mentioned - not that it matters. I think it would work well.
