Lottery/Rush lines lately

What's up people? In three weeks time (July 29th) I'll be heading to NYC with a group of friends for a bachelor party. We all have free time Saturday afternoon so I was planning on catching a matinee. I'm on a tight budget so rush/SRO tickets would be great. Can anyone please tell me how the lines have been the past couple weeks for: Spelling Bee, Avenue Q, DRS, Wicked (probably still busy) and dare I ask Jersey Boys (most likely impossible)? I'll probably just go to the show that I have the best chance of winning tickets or have to wait the shortest time for. And also how busy are the lines, usually, during the last weekend in July? I appreciate any help. Thanks all.

DRS should be by then incredibly easy. They'll have a new cast and everyone wnated to see Norbert. Even with Norbert and Pryce, the lottery was easy.

Spelling Bee- lotto which all the Wicked losers do..
Avenue Q- lotto, usually 50-100 people
DRS- lotto, usually very easy 20-60 people
Wicked (probably still busy)- very very very very busy
Jersey Boys- rush, so if you want to get tickets, be there early
Wedding Singer- Not on your list, but its a great show with great rush.. get there at 9:30 and you'll get front row center seats

What time do they give out the Wedding Singer rush tickets? Is it when the box office opens? That might be a good option...at least we'd know early if we had tickets.

They (WS) start selling rush seats when the box office opens (10AM)
If you're there by 9:30 you'll get seats. The show is a lot of fun!

I found Wedding Singer fairly easy to get tickets to. Got there 10:30 am on a Sunday, box office opens at 12 pm (on Sundays), got front row center.

Friday night 7/7 my roommate and I lost *three* lottos- Ave Q, then Bee, then Drowsy. It's getting crowded out there in lotto land.

When does the summer tourist craziness die down? I was in NY from May-June and it went from absolutely no lines for rush to 3 hour lines. When will it be safe to come back in the fall?

Usually the tourist craze ends around the fall September leading into October. While the rush lines may die down from tourists, it's not going to stop the locals from coming.

It also depends on what show you want to watch. For example, Jersey Boys is extremely popular and at the moment in order to get a spot in line for rush you have to be at the theatre by 7 something AM tops.

I would guess that Summer tourist season starts dying off after Labor Day? I know end of Sept. and most of October last year crowds weren't too bad. Then they start up again in Nov for Thanksgiving I guess?

Yes, around Thanksgiving leading up to Christmas the process starts all over again haha New York is basically a tourist trap all year round!

Really? It's busy Thanksgiving weekend? I was hoping to spend that week in NY figuring everyone would be home with family...

Thanksgiving is a good time, it's just it's the start of the holiday season. A lot of people are usually in town for the parade and broadway isn't too far off. Not to mention it's very cold, so if you're planning to do rush, bundle up!

Thanks for the info and advice! Sorry to get off topic...but are all theaters dark on Thanksgiving night? If so, do they tend to make up a performance somewhere in the week?

My sister and I went to a show on Thanksgiving night two years ago. No idea if that was an exception, or the rule.

Is the Wedding Singer rush general or student? Sweeney? How strict are they about that whole student thing? Is there like a grace period or something? Do you think they would notice that my student id is expired?

Also, btw, there were like maybe 40 people at the DRS lottery Sunday. (I won!)

How hard is it to get rush into Tarzan. Does anyone know?

Tarzan is easy if you're willing to wait. The last time I went was probably 2 weeks ago, so it might be more crowded now with tourists...but I got there around 4:15 and I still got tickets front row center. But I wouldn't get there any later than 4:30 (but I also think that they're really nice there and they usually try to give tickets to most of the people waiting in line, it just may not be front row seats).

Wedding Singer is student rush. They check the ID and they do reallylook at it, but I don't know if they would notice an expiration date.

It says on the Talkin' Bway site that the Drowsy lotto is one hour before curtain. I just want to double check that this is correct, as most lottos seem to be 2 hours prior to curtain. Is it?

It is correct. The names are pulled one hour prior to curtain.

For Drowsy though, you need to make sure you're there a few minutes before they draw or they won't let you enter. And from my experience, the people who enter the lotteries the earliest often seem to get picked more often. Anyone else notice this?
