I pick Reichard because he had the most charisma out of anyone on that stage...I believe he is the most realiable, neuanced, and talented actor/singer in the group...and if somebody in JB has to win an award, I think it should be him.
I did think Mano was good, and would not mind see him taking home the prize either.
But if I were voting Reichard would get my vote for saving JB for me. Oh what a night...
I am wondering why you put Woman in White as a nomination for the book. I do not remember much dialogue in it at all, maybe I am wrong. I may just have a total misunderstanding of the criteria that needs to be met for a nomination for Outstanding Book. And if I do, I hope the hellian LizzieCurry doesn't come attack me.
I could be mistaken, but I think Jim Dale is the front-runner in the Featured Actor in a Musical race. Granted, the lack of love for Threepenny may have an effect. But Jim Dale is fantastic, and his performance should be honored, regardless of one's opinion of the show as a whole.
Not that I'm rooting for him, mind you...
I think Christian Hoff has a better chance than Reichard...but we'll see what happens.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

I wouldn't totally discount the possibility of Amy Spanger getting a featured actress nod (and winning).

The choosing was not...

Well if there is one thing this season is lacking it is a really strong New book...WOMAN IN WHITE is in my predix by defult. Because frankly I just enjoyed the story much more than anything else that could possibly be nominated...LESTAT, WEDDING SINGER, IN MY LIFE, LENNON, TARZAN, A DANCERS LIFE, RING OF FIRE (oh wait...there was no book)...
the dreck just came out in droves this year - so WIW gets a nod in my book....althought I hope DROWSY sweeps the competition clean in the category.
I have not seen Drowsy and I am NOT a Mamma Mia or jukebox musical fan at all -- but I love Jersey Boys. A lot. I hope it wins, and if it doesn't, I will be okay but they should get something for that show. The actors are up there working so hard (as they do for every show). But these guys are fighting preconceived notions by skeptical theatre goers -- and I'll admit, I didn't want to go see it. I was so dumb!
I agree Jim Dale will probably win Sup.Actor in a musical. I would love to see Lauren Molina slip in but that category is really packed with amazingly talented Women!
So there are so many people that could be nominated for Best Featured Actor/Actress in a Musical. I agree that Manoel might get nominated, but I do not see him winning at all. His performance was good, but there was nothing WOW about it. He did a good job of portraying the character Tobias, but nothing about him particulary stood out to me. As far as actresses go, is Sutton being considered Leading or Featured? I feel that her role wasn't nearly big enough to be considered a lead. -BJH
See, for me, BJH, Manoel was the show. Since the focus of the production was centralized on Toby, Manoel was featured more than other Toby's. I thought he did a wonderful job of taking the story all the way through from start to end. I would love to see him take the prize come Tony night.
The show starts and ends with Tobias but he is not the center of the show he may get nominated but i doubt it he is a great actor and singer and will go far but we love him more in chat rooms than the TONY folk.
No, it's still Sweeney Todd, but by starting and ending the show with Tobias, it's almost as if we're seeing it through his eyes. That's what I meant, not that he is the main character. But here, he is a more central character than in other productions.
gotta agree with CurtainPullDowner on this one. I do think Manoel is great in ST, and certainly stands out above the rest...I do hope the nominators see that and award him a nomination. Although, I don't think the role is anywhere near broad or big enough in the current revival for a win.
The only thing to take into consideration (and I am not saying that this will be a factor at all, but it's something that could affect the Tony voters' decision) about direction is the announcement of the success of JD's version of Company in Ohio. Voters might be a little thrown by the fact that he uses the exact same concept in both. Personally, I would love to see him take the Direction Tony, but just something to consider.
I haven't seen Tarzan, but I agree on the other four nominations for lead actor in a musical. Sweeney is a terrific production, Cerveris is great and he gives a dynamic performance. But so does JLY. Of the four, JLY's my favorite and I really hope he takes home the Tony.
And here's to hoping that Patti Lupone is nominated/wins and that Jersey Boys gets lots of other nominations and awards *crosses fingers, toes, burns incense, prays to the theater goddess, etc*
It's no secret I want Cervaris to win and JLY has tons of fans and poeple saying he is Incredible (I missed his performance) But now all i hear from people seeing PAJAMA GAME is that Connick is knocking people's socks off over there and he is the ONE to beat. I am so confused.
