I really, really hope that this turns out well. But it just seems like a bad, parody-heavy idea. I have serious doubts as to whether David Lindsay-Abaire can do a musical book (it's a completely different skill than writing a play). And Walter Bobbie? Yikes.

i am curious about this as well since it is one of my favorite books and movie.
"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell

It's one of my favorite books as well. Didn't care much for the movie. Only reason it was any good was Cusack's performance. One question, WHY Walter Bobbie? That's the one part that makes no sense and worries me more than a little bit.
I'm a HUGE Nick Hornby fan - High Fidelity is one of my favorite books and I enjoyed the movie. I've heard some of the music from this score, and I really enjoy it. I'll be excited when it comes to broadway.
Julia Murney did readings/workshop, as far as I know. And sounded mighty fierce in them! Can someone PM me what the story of High Fidelity is? I'm not familiar with the book or the movie.
Amanda is Adolph and Phyliss's daughter. Walter Bobbie (Yuckee) Where are the good musical directors? Wasn't Jenn Collela part of it also? I hope she doesn't leave THE TIMES for this. She is so great in TIMES!
I have a friend who was offered (and took) a part just a few days ago, so they're probably still piecing together the cast. I didn't get a lot of info from him but he seems to have great faith in the piece. And I don't know where, but if they still aim for Broadway in Nov (as someone in this thread said) I suppose they probably are going out of town as he said he starts rehearsals in August. I'll let you know if hear anything else.
I've heard some of the music with Norbert Leo Butz and Sherie Rene Scott and the music's great...I'm glad to hear that something is coming of the show!
I saw on the Best of Broadway link over at ATC that this show is slated for SF for a Pre-Broadway engagement. Can't wait to get tix for it. I happen to love the movie (though I haven't seen it for quite some time) and have no problem with the choice of director and look forward to hearing some Green-Kitt tunes.
I saw Will Chase in Lennon out here last year and enjoyed his voice, so I'd be happy with that casting as well.

MissNY, were you able to see the workshops? If so, what's your take on the material presented? I'm not familiar with either actress you named...any history on them?

I'm wondering what Bobbie is doing on this team too. This is a great book from the extremely talented, dare I say, brilliant Nick Hornby and was made into little more than an art house flick, if you will. I'm not quite sure why this is someones big idea for a Broadway musical mounting but much of the recent movie to musical fare going soon to Broadway, reek of potential disaster. I've also heard the demos and performances aside,(IMO) it's not melodic, is lyrically odd and won't be everyone's cup of tea.
Without getting into specifics and/or hurting any feelings (as I know many more than would like to admit, lurk here), let's PRAY they don't keep much of the workshop(s) cast. They would mostly (IMO) fall under the WRONG, glaringly inappropriate, and what were they thinking, categories.
And being that it's the same casting co. as Wedding Singer, let's again hope everyone there learned SOMETHING!
i can't and will not say...but you will be happy...really you will. i am wondering who is going to do the lili taylor role...i love her SOO much. she needs to work a lot more.
